Omnivorous Atheist/Skeptic queer geeks 11 years, 10 months agoI think I upped my geek cred this weekend. I have an extra laptop I don’t use much so just for the hell of it because I was curious I installed linux ubuntu and the gnome3 shell. It’s been fun to play with (and I really like it so far) even though I don’t really know what I’m doing, but that’s what google is for.

Omnivorous Atheist/Skeptic queer geeks 11 years, 10 months agoI suddenly find myself single again. My sad ass just took solace in watching David Cross standup. Sufficiently geeky, yea or nay?

The Great Library of Autostraddle 11 years, 10 months agoI’ve finished a lot of books this week!
I just finished ‘The Elegance of the Hedgehog’ by Muriel Barbery today. This was among my prizes for coming in second in the Autostraddle summer book club and I lucked out! It was very good. A very solitary concierge in a building full of very rich people works hard to present an image of stupidity and…[Read more]

The Great Library of Autostraddle 11 years, 11 months agoI just finished rereading A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray, and I can’t wait to get my hands on the second and third book in the trilogy- can’t believe I never finished it!
Also just read Less Than Zero by Brett Easton Ellis and I basically want to read everything he has written ever! -

The Great Library of Autostraddle 11 years, 11 months agoI just finished The Last Man by Mary Shelley. Apocalyptic fiction is great! The book was mostly about how future England would deal with plague. [Side note: Mary Shelley did not spend a lot of time dreaming about what the future would be like. In another 80 years, we’re going to be right back in 19th century England.] I was more interested in how…[Read more]

The Great Library of Autostraddle 11 years, 11 months agoI’ve been busy reading in the past few days! Here’s what I’ve finished recently:
‘Reality Bites Back: The Troubling Truth About Guilty Pleasure TV’ by Jennifer Pozner – It’s a hilariously snarky, but serious academic take down of reality TV and it’s regressive, offensive ideas about women, people of color, and the poor. It’s putting into words…[Read more]

Omnivorous Atheist/Skeptic queer geeks 11 years, 11 months agoUgh. Having a vegan Thanksgiving this year. I already miss my Turkey and Gravy!
-
Why vegan?
-
My sister in law is vegan and my mom decided she didn’t want to deal with prepping two different meals
-
-
I remember that in middle school my parents were out of the country for a week, and I had to stay with my friend who is Hindu, so her whole family is vegetarian (not vegan, thankfully). Within a few minutes of my parents picking me up after they came back, I was already begging for a ham sandwich. That was when I knew that despite my hippie hopes…[Read more]

http://www.guardian.co.uk/tv-and-radio/2011/nov/15/doctor-who-film-plannedI was stoked until he said he plans on ignoring the TV show. Um hello, you can’t do that. Dr. Who has been on the air for 50 years!

Political Straddlers 11 years, 11 months agoI have so many thoughts about so many things that I don’t even know where to start. How about, for those in the U.S. that the Republican candidates are talking about such outrageous things as military strikes in Iran and reinstating waterboarding. Proud to be an American?
-
Sounds like most people across the board think they’re terrible, so I’m not worried, yet.
-
You would be amazed at how many conservative voters believe these are perfectly logical and just ideas, especially because of the influence of Fox News. Fox has incredible pull among vast segments of the US populace–their ability to get away with journalistic murder makes for great entertainment, even if it certainly doesn’t come within spitting…[Read more]
