Lesbrarians 12 years, 1 month agookay, y’all. i’ve been out of it for a while, but no one else has wanted to talk about library-book-or-intellectual freedom related things? really?
-
hmm. that sounded kinda pissy. sorry, y’all.
how’s everyone doing?
-
Aww hon! I’ve been on vacation! (Went to Chicago and Michfest)
-
did you have a good time? *hope so*
-
The best ever! I learned to salsa, saw a million concerts, befriended the people behind Trans Women Belong Here, was inducted as a Festie Virgin on stage, had a 24-hour romance with a lauded activist and woke up between two porn stars.
Also librarians are VERY popular on the Land :D
-
whoa. good festival. *jealous*

I just got accepted for an internship at a Wildlife Rehabilitation Center! :D Finally moving my life in the right direction.
Also, I went on a long bike ride yesterday and stopped at a marsh. I saw some painted turtles and basking snakes.

Lesbrarians 12 years, 3 months agoi was running around from branch to branch today delivering video game equipment, and i heard odd noises from one of the activity rooms. i went to the door to investigate and omg! so many munchkins were running amok! i love summer storytimes. the kids get so riled up and will usually still be dancing around/reenacting the stories.
i’m a teen…[Read more] -

Sooo . . . I’m curious, what are your favorite National Parks? I can count on one hand those I’ve visited, but I’d really like to see more. I don’t know that I could chose between Death Valley and Olympic. Both are fantastic in such different ways.
I’m really fortunate to live near 3 — Olympic, Rainier, and North Cascades. I hope to visit…[Read more]-
Yosemite’s the one I’m most familiar with. I like it best in early spring, when the winter crowd’s gone, the summer crowd’s still weeks away, and the dogwoods and wildflowers are just blooming. Gorgeous. I also love the expanses of glacier-polished granite, even though it’s roughly the only time I’m ever afraid of heights. It’s beautiful stuff,…[Read more]

That sounds really beautiful. I’m accustomed to seeing smoothly polished rock in river beds, but nothing on the the type of scale you write about!
-
BIG Yosemite love. I grew up visiting the park and lived there for almost a year after college. It’s gorgeous and one of the best places I’ve ever lived. Nothing quite like waking up in a tent under Half Dome every day

Yosemite is phenomenal. I recently (last summer) visited a bunch of parks in Utah (I was part of a team of excavators at a dinosaur quarry in Hanksville) and fell in love. Dead Horse Point State Park is GORGEOUS. Here is a photo I took while there:[http://www.flickr.com/photos/meganluczak/4696585929/in/photostream]. Goblin Valley is neat, as well…[Read more]

Wow, talk about a majestic view! That’s some photo! State parks in Utah must really be a cut above! O to be there right now . . .

Lesbrarians 12 years, 3 months agoConference season is in full swing, so … does anyone have conference(s) they love or hate? What are people up to this summer? The topics for all of them sound so good this year.

I heard ALA is basically a big partywhere librarians and authors get drunk together and decide what books they’re going to push based on epic session of Beer Pong. :D
-
You know, I’ve been to ALA since I was a preteen or something like that, and I don’t think I ever remember my mom showing up at the hotel late at night and drunk. It’s probably different traveling with kids …
However, I just went to a different conference up in Canada and let me tell you, the drinking … the drinking … the drinking. I…[Read more]

Also, the people overhearing our heated complainfest about publishers, eReaders, and e-Books must have thought we were out of our minds.
