Any fellow queerios slogging through medical school like me? (I’m in the middle of my 2nd year) if so message me!
-
I’m finishing up my first year of optometry school.
-
That’s cool; how many years do you have to go? Do you just do a lot of eye exams and neuro?
-
Three more after this year. We also do a ton of optics, a lot of neuro and ocular anatomy, and a little general anatomy. And then a lot of learning how to actually do an eye exam.
How about you? Med school going well? Any specialty picked out yet?
-
minimum of 5 years after this (oy). I LOVE NEURO TO THE MAX. by far my favorite subject. we don’t choose our specialties until after clinical rotations (1 year from now)…but leaning towards neuro, obygyn, or internal med.
-
Hey !
So, I’m an MD between residencies. First one was in Family Practice and the next one in 2013 will be Preventive Medicine. And because I’m a glutton for grad school punishment, it has an MPH embedded in it….*sigh*
Special shout out to all you med students and resident colleagues, PM and say hello!

hey :) i’m in med school–almost finished with my third year, thank GOD.
-
Cool! Where do you go to school? I can’t wait to be done with my second year and actually start clinicals. How’s it going so far?
-
I go to school on the east coast (PM me if you want more specifics. I’m happy to give them, just not on a public forum.) And so far, so good. The first two years are a pain, so once you’re finished with them (and Step 1), then you’re golden. Third year’s been really great, actually. It’s nice to actually see patients. Of course, I still have…[Read more]

congrats! -from a resident in the mid-south, trust me it’s all golden after third year.
-
thank you! i’m really excited for residency and i can’t even be deterred by the fact that i’ll need to get through my intern year first :D mind if i ask what field you chose? i’ve decided on pediatrics, myself.
-
Emergency Medicine.
You’ll get through intern year, just like you got through first year: one day at a time.

NYC Autostraddlers 11 years, 6 months agoI’m doing it! I’m organizing a NYC meet-up! How does Saturday the 17th work for people? Are we thinking coffee, restaurant, or bar? I think Greenwich Village would be a great place (not just because that’s where I live- it’s actually an awesome area.)

NYC Autostraddlers 11 years, 7 months agohi! moving to NYC and was wondering:
1) what burroughs in NY should i be looking at/recommended? i’ll be working near the Canal Street stop/Chinatown. i need an area that’s safe, conveniently located to a metro, not insanely expensive and if it has character/flavor – then that would be even more fantastic… what’s good?
2) is there a better way…[Read more]

1) According to my OkCupid all the queer-mo’s live in Brooklyn. ALL OF THEM. But seriously, Brooklyn. I’m gonna be moving there too in the summer. I’m a life long NY’er but I’m really not familiar with Brooklyn at all so maybe someone else could give more info as to what ‘hoods are best and all that. Obviously the better the neighborhood, the more…[Read more]

I currently live in the West Village (Manhattan). It’s kind of expensive, but if you’re looking for somewhere safe and near bars/cute coffee shops/bakeries/unbelievable restaurants/greenmarkets/everything else you’ll ever need, this is the place to go. Greenwich Village in general is amazing. Also, I know that there is a lot of hype, but you…[Read more]

1) Brooklyn is quite close to Chinatown, and there are some nice neighborhoods off the N & R lines. I live in Boerum Hill (very pleasant and fairly cheap right now, but everything might change after the new basketball stadium is finished) which is through the Atlantic Ave/Pacific St subway stop. The next few stops (up through 4th Av/9th St) are…[Read more]

1. I used to live in Chinatown. Anywhere off the 6 or N/Q/R is really convenient. I live in Greenwich Village now. The East Village is a bit cheaper and near the 6, depending how far east you are. I’d also recommend Brooklyn, although I know very little about it.
2. I found mine through a friend, who found it through a broker. I’ve found…[Read more]

thank you! definitely excited about the suggestions on the places to go/see/explore…not so much about the CL’ing or finding a broker who’s likely going to enjoy charging me an arm and a leg to find a simple space to hang my proverbial hat. i’ve been on CL but because its so early on, there’s not yet much to work with. i’ve been hearing the most…[Read more]

1) Brooklyn: Fort Greene/Clinton Hill and Prospect Heights are very in now. Crown Heights is right next door, not as ‘safe’ but much, much cheaper, and is a pretty vibrant neighbourhood.
2) Hmm, not sure if this answer is too late but you can try the Listings Project. It has a focus on creative types (so, lots of art studios listed) but each place…[Read more]

my qualifier exam is in a little less than two weeks. i know it’ll be fine. i just wish i could actually relax enough to sleep!
-
I’m sure you will do fine. I’m convinced being totally nervous/stressed out is a sign you realize you will never know enough and continue to prepare up to the last possible minute. The people I have seen who fail are the people who are over confident. I don’t know how your exam works, but before my oral defense I didn’t sleep, ate a cookie and…[Read more]

thanks :) i definitely agree with that saying “the more you learn the more you realize how little you know” – and that’s part of the reason i love science so much, it’s just a constant stream of learning things that have never been discovered before. it just freaks me out that i’m sleeping 3-4 hours a night now for the fifth day in a row and i…[Read more]
