Hi @internrachel, @julia1 and everybody else!

I am sososo excited about book club!!!!!

I read Between the Bridge and the River by Craig Ferguson (329 pages) a few days ago…I didn’t actually know he used to be a talk show host, until about halfway through when I decided to read the back. It was a fun summer read but not exceptional :( It was kind of about the afterlife/a criticism of religion, which was enjoyable, but it was one of those books that tried just a little too hard to connect its seemingly unrelated characters, which seems a bit overdone.

Also also also, I just finished The Corrections (565) by Jonathan Franzen which was so good! I had trouble sticking with it and it’s taken me forever to finish, but the queer storyline 3/4s of the way through made me happy and gave me the extra push I needed to get through it. I feel like Franzen might have made the first hundred pages or so extra dense to illustrate his point about Chip, but all in all it was amazing and just such a cool portrait of a family neither dysfunctional or functional. I’m totally psyched to read Freedom next!

Anyone else read these books (I assume plenty have read Franzen but I’m curious about the first one)?

    • I read Between the Bridge and the River years ago, when I watched Craig Ferguson’s show. Mostly I remember that there was a prostitute and what seemed like product placement for a suit. (Do they do product placement in novels? He was certainly talking one up.) Good times, though.
