I recently came out to myself (literally two weeks ago) and also just moved to the panhandle of Florida from England (military family) so I don’t know anyone and have not had any experience in this area. Plus I’m super shy and now live in the Bible belt…yay.

I used to live near the panhandle. It was a shitty bible belt, for sure. There are pockets that are more queer friendly, though. Is there a college campus nearby with an LGBT chapter?

  I was looking at Pensacola State College and have yet to find information on an LGBT chapter there. It looks like there was an Equality House in Pensacola, but it shut down due to lack in funding.     Lack of funding? Yeah, that’s north Florida. People don’t consider it the bible belt, but it is. The town I lived in had KKK sponsored billboard messages until the late 1980s. But any place that has such bold and angry hatred, there is a tight knit community with open arms waiting for you. Good luck with the hunt.

      Oh wow, that’s pretty disgusting. I’ve heard rumors about there still being KKK-like things around this area, in Alabama, and Georgia. I guess I’m not surprised, but it still sucks.
      
      I’m hoping to make my way over to visit Pensacola once I get settled. It looks like a really nice place to be.
