TravelStraddle 12 years, 1 month agoHi, I’m an Aussie headed to Europe for 6 weeks over Christmas. Some of my stops are Italy (Rome, Florence, Venice), Munich, Paris and London. I’d love to meet up with someone. I speak decent French and a little German (not really enough for a conversation).
-
Hey, I am another Aussie, currently living in Denmark at the moment but I will travelling over Christmas before heading back down under. I’ll be going to Italy amongst other places… my itinerary isn’t fixed yet but maybe if we’re in the same place at the same time we can grab a coffee / plate of pasta / beer? :)

Comics, Anyone? 12 years, 1 month agoJust getting into comics, the only one I have read is Buffy season 8. Any recommendations on where to start?

Get these. They will make you a happy gay:
Gotham Central (series from 2003, now collected in four trade paperbacks. You will love Renee Montoya)
Batwoman: Elegy (required lesbian comic book reading. The trade paperback collects a series of issues from Detective Comics that feature the most awesomely lesbinoic superhero ever.)
Batwoman…[Read more]

also, HUNTRESS is getting her own little bit of a book!

Also! Strangers in Paradise (by Terry Moore), Hopeless Savages (by Jen Van Meter), Blue Monday (by Chynna Clugston…get ready to have a crush on Clover)…also French Milk (by Lucy Knisley) and Blankets (Craig Thompson).
WHOO INDIES!
Also support my company and read Hexed. It’s grand.
-
Sharks did a great job of covering the lesbo hero basics and Shannon did a great job covering a lot of the Indies (looks like I’ll be picking up Hexed!) but I’ll add a few.
The Scott Pilgrim books (Bryan Lee O’Malley) if you like indieness and movie games and slackers in Toronto, you’ll probably like this. Ramona has a Bi-curious stage that’s…[Read more]

i second the Runaways series #somuch Also, Plain Janes by Castellucci

If you want to get into mainstream Marvel comics, I highly recommend Runaways, Young Avengers, and anything from the Marvel Adventures line–they’re great introductions to the larger universe, as well as very well-written. (Well, mostly. We won’t speak of Joss’s run or some of the tragic art and writing of Civil War). If you get lost as to…[Read more]

‘Strangers in Paradise’ is an excellent place to start for both gayness and delightful characters/complex storylines.
‘Transmetropolitan’ by Warren Ellis is good if you like batshit insane. Spider Jerusalem is a gonzo journalist in the future. Technology may change, but people and politics not so much.
‘The Sandman’ by Neil Gaiman is a classic…[Read more]

Comics, Anyone? 12 years, 1 month agoCraig Tompson’s ‘Habibi’ is… I… I’m still processing it. It’s gorgeous and heartbreaking. I’m probably going to have to read it again because there’s so much going on in that book I know I missed some things.

Doctor Whovians 12 years, 1 month agoso what did everyone thought of the finale? I was rather underwhelmed, to be honest.
-
I liked it. Not one of my favorite episodes, but I think they did a good job of wrapping everything up without it feeling too rushed. Amy finally got to do something interesting, and Rory was a bamf as always. I’m still not sure about River’s relationship with the Doctor; I’d prefer they show, not tell. I haven’t seen anything yet to convince…[Read more]

I really enjoyed most of it — I love the plot twists of NewWho under Moffatt. But the wedding ceremony really bothered me: River never consents. Does this bother anyone else?

Doctor Whovians 12 years, 1 month agoI’ve been giggling about Stormageddon all day. It’ll just pop into my head at random moments and I’ll just start laughing like a crazy person. Matt Smith is freaking hilarious with babies and children. I really wish we could have a ‘Lost’-style sideways universe type thing where the Doctor managed to go back in five minutes like he promised and…[Read more]
