Hahah, yes, I was going to say a blurb, but then every tech-thing I owned majorly shut down earlier for various reasons.
I attended Occupy LA. Reading up on all the different Occupy articles, I was acutely aware that representation has been an issue, so I brought a sign that said:
Queer Woman of Color: Part of the 99% with an HRC sticker slapped on. Yeah, I was proud of my mad sharpie skills too. It also happened to be NCOD so I wrote on the back Happy NCOD Day.My ex and I ended up just wandering around, taking in all of the tents, and the people, and the signs, some of which we had seen on the news. We ended up sitting in on a bunch of different group meetings. It was kind of frustrating because we sat in on an almost 2 hour meeting which was kind of meta: they were trying to deliberate how best to bring proposals to the general assembly, but each person’s idea for that, in itself, was like a proposal. So it was essentially people presenting proposals on presenting proposals. Some people got frustrated, but it was cool to see people who were engaged in discussion and that there was an effort to acknowledge differing viewpoints.
We were really interested in attending the candlelight vigil for Jamey Rodemyer, but that ended up being pulled to the next day. Overall, I thought it was a good experience. I don’t know if I’ll be able to make it back out there again though.
