Also Working On It 8 years, 3 months agoDoes anyone feel passionate about a particular brand of sports/water bottle? I’ve been using a Camelbak Eddy for the past year but am experiencing some issues and ready to explore other options.
-
I got this really great water bottle at Costco. It’s stainless steel, and it has a button you push that opens a spigot and then you can drink from it. Of course, being from Costco, you can only buy them in 2-packs…
Camelbacks have a mold problem in my experience and this water bottle does not have that problem!

Also Working On It 8 years, 3 months agoTomorrow morning is Day 1 of running. I’m following this plan on BreakingMuscle: http://breakingmuscle.com/running/a-week-by-week-guide-to-becoming-a-runner-later-in-life-and-or-safely. I’ll start with the FMS and then do the Day 1 walk/jog. Goal is avoid injury and enjoy running. Any other beginning runners out there? Or other runners want to…[Read more]

I just posted a novel over here. Also great work on making a commitment! Let me know if you have any questions <3

Thanks! I read your novel post heh; any particular articles on Runner’s World or other sources that you liked for beginners wrt avoiding injury / choosing a dang shoe? I’m liking a lot of the var online articles about biomechanics that give me a clue about how feet etc are supposed to work while running; pretty cool and helpful.
-
I can’t remember any specific posts – I usually just fall into one of those spirals where I keep clicking on related articles ;)
I really think the best way to get a good shoe is to go to a specialist store and get them to fit you. It’s expensive, yes, but it’s a very good investment.

Oh a friend just posted this on Facebook and it seems relevant: http://www.king5.com/story/news/health/get-fit/2015/07/09/finding-the-right-running-shoes/29877961/

Also Working On It 8 years, 3 months agoRight, real talk, I am running bc it is the only way I will reliably, quantifiably up my fitness (I need targets). I only started a fortnight ago and it is mostly all right but partly ATROCIOUS. Like my body is like ‘you could stop, you know’ for at least 50% of the time and just managing to not stop takes everything I have.
Does this get better…[Read more]

This is probably the Number 1 reason i don’t run. When my body is like ‘you could stop, you know’, I’m like ‘you’re right, this blows!’ and then I don’t make it far. When I’m swimming though, I can usually push pass the ‘you could stop, you know’, so I’m trying to get back into that but OMG I AM OUT OF SHAPE!
-
I don’t have any insight as I’m even newer to running than you are, Cassandra. I’m reading up online to start running myself. Maybe this link will give you some ideas to try? From your description, would changing your shoes, pace, or breathing cadence make running more comfortable?…[Read more]

This was very helpful! This article + the tips from Dina downstream made me realise that most of the discomfort was the gasping for breath/lungs burning horribleness. So for my last run I really focused on breathing properly, and running at a pace where that breathing was enough and I didn’t have to gasp for air. And I ran, I mean, RIDICULOUSLY…[Read more]

Awesome! Sounds like you were springing before and didn’t even know it :^D I remember when a team mate clued me in to syncing breathing cadence with my running cadence; helped me a lot. I’m super-beginner to running but seem to settle on 2 strides inhale (nose) 2 strides exhale (mouth). How about you, did you find a cadence you like?
Also…[Read more]

I am also terrible at running, similarly it’s the wanting to give up thing. I feel like @dina might have some tips!

Hi yes this is a thing I can do!
I used to really, really hate running. I think it came down to really bad gym class experiences in junior high school. Even when I was in great shape from swimming, running was always a chore.
A few years ago I decided that running was a lot easier and more low-cost than dragging myself to the swimming pool every…[Read more]

Thank you for this!! I updated above in my reply to Rey. It helped a whole bunch :D

Yay! I’m glad it helped!

I read that link I posted earlier and at the bottom it said some runs will just really suck no matter what, and no matter if you’re expert or beginner. Good to know?
-
I can confirm from experience that this is true.
