I just finished Kushiel’s Dart by Jacqueline Carey – a whopping 1015 pages of pure bliss. I highly recommend it to anyone who remotely likes fantasy and/or heroines and/or BDSM. So obvs queerness is so totes not a big deal in the alternate universe where the Kushiel Trilogy (you better believe I’m already on the second book) is set. And I just misstyped “set” as “sex” – that is how this book makes you think.
Phèdre nó Delaunay, the aforementioned heroine, is smart and beautiful and kick-ass… as well as being a highly trained courtesan. She also has some intense divine influence going on which I will not divulge here in case anyone wants to read.
The only thing I can complain about is that the wannabe-medieval-style language took a little while to get used to and can get a little annoying sometimes, but it’s worth it for the story. Romance! Political intrigue! SEEEXXX!
I liked it.
