Autostraddle Summer Book Club 2011 12 years, 1 month ago Best European Fiction 2010 (421 pages) is an anthology I just finished. I feel like if this was the best Europe had to offer, maybe I need to try another continent? Out of the thirty five stories in this book, only three were enjoyable: Stephan Enter’s “Resistance”, Michal Witkowski’s “Didi”, and an excerpt from Andrej Blatnik’s “You Do Understand?”. I found the rest very dry reading, even the stories that were supposed to be funny were boring. It was absolutely the wrong book to take on vacation, no one would describe it as beach reading. Which is why I gave it a rest halfway through and switched to Harry Potter, thinking that finishing it at home would make it a better read. Books like this give me a very satisfied feeling when I bring them back to the library, I slide them into the return dropbox and give thanks that I didn’t shell out $15.95 for a mediocre book to clutter my shelves.
