Really great post today from Rowan Readings about the nature of Karma.

Hi all! I have been pretty busy lately so haven’t been here that much.
I wanted to post a reading I did today. As usual, any insights appreciated.

    1. ‘The Situation/Issue’: Queen of Swords
I think this represents me, especially when you look at the other cards in the reading.

    2. ‘Do’ – Four of Pentacles – Reversed
I get this card a lot in…[Read more]

    • Hey Elisabeth,
      What deck are you using?
I think the spread is encouraging you not to make a big deal out of opening your heart. The Queen of Swords has been through so much, but instead of making her hide from love, she is strengthened by her experiences. She’s cynical to a degree…but there’s also a real ‘bring it on’ attitude which I love. The…[Read more]

      • Beth,
Thanks for your input! I didn’t have time to upload picks but it’s the Dreaming Way tarot.
The Queen is seated in the opposite direction as usual, so that she is facing the left side of the card (which to me means the past). This reading took on definite meaning yesterday. What you wrote is very apropos.
        Many thanks!

Ok, y’all I finally started a blog! Yay! Here it is: Ace Journey.
(That name may be changed, I’m SO horrible with names).

    Here’s some summer solstice spreads:

    Bodhran’s Summer Solstice Spread
    Rowan Tarot Summer Solstice Spread
    Summer Solstice Sunrise Spread

    I did Rowan’s spread

I was hoping for something really cheerful and optimistic. What I got was the bitter truth. Shoot!

    1. Sunrise – something beginning or coming into my life.
    4 of Cups
    I’ve been doing a…[Read more]

Mary Greer’s blog is amazing! She has articles on Tarot and psychology, Jung, and really intelligent and unusual spreads.

I am falling in love with the Tarot in a way I never thought I would. Thanks to this group I’m just at a really good place with it right now and that is making me really happy. You all are awesome!

I was really inspired this morning by Dani’s article about Pride. I really liked her journaling questions and decided to use them to do my…[Read more]

    • This is awesome – I love that your used Dani’s pride prompts. What a good idea!

Also, my reaction to the Knight of Cups once was “don’t be that guy!” Lol.

      • Thanks!!!
I know right?! But the Knight of Cups is supposed to be what I’m proud of. I am actually kinda like that, but I’m definitely not proud of it.

        • Way to invent a new spread off that article! I’m gonna try this one out later tonight.
Re: “I am falling in love with the Tarot in a way I never thought I would.” – It’s addictive, isn’t it? For me, dabbling in tarot was a gateway, and the cards have totally gotten under my skin since then. Now I find I think about them all the time – I’m…[Read more]

        • This page has some great positives (and negatives! to balance) about the Knight of Cups. Maybe it’ll have something helpful?
          Knight of Cups @ LearnTarot

          • That was really helpful! A lot of that is me. That website also says that two Knights in a reading can be two conflicting sides of the self or enhanced aspects of the Knights in general.

          • That website also has some great stuff about the 4 of Pentacles! Trying to control a situation too much, not letting go, resisting change…yep.

I just got Mary Greer’s 21 ways to read a tarot card and it is amazing! The process is a bit time consuming but it is helping me to see an incredible amount in one card and to make it really make sense to current circumstances. I started doing this 21 step process for one card in a three card reading and so far I have about three pages written…[Read more]

    • Oh this sounds amazing! I really want more books, but I’ve put myself on bookbuying hiatus until I find a job. Sadness!

How are you enjoying the book and journaling process?

      • I’m really amazed at the stuff that is coming up. That first card (The Lovers), when I drew it I had this one really simplistic interpretation, and then after doing the excercises in the Greer book I literally started to cry once when I was journaling about it. It brought up some deep emotional issues. It was really amazing. I haven’t even…[Read more]

        • I am also on a book-buying hiatus right now, and man, it is hard to find tarot books at the library. Any library. So, therealpotter, I feel your pain.

          • I’m so tempted to drop the $10 for the kindle version since someone has the library’s copy, but I’m standing strong…! Ha. I grabbed another book to tide me over and they put me on the waitlist for 21 Ways.

I just really like having physical books for things like this.

        • It’s fantastic that you’re getting so much out of this book. I think you’ve got me convinced!

My library card desperately needs to be renewed (and I’m sure there are some *fines* to pay, lol). But I looked at the online catalog, and a pretty close branch has a copy! And I can make it over there before it closes for the day!

          I hope the ongoing…[Read more]

          • I’m glad you can get a copy. I’ve been really spoiled with my college’s library. It’s really small but I can get ILL for free which is awesome! My local library really resents doing ILL and they ask for “donations” if you request them. They even called me once to “ask” before they would do any ILL for me.
I really enjoy journaling, scribbles…[Read more]

          • Ugh, that’s annoying re: ILL. I live in a pretty big city with libraries all over the place, so that makes me happy. And my school’s ILL programs have been so helpful…though I am glad that I don’t need them anymore, lol.

          • I’ve been reading more of this book and I feel like this is a book I could spend the next year studying. It is packed with info. and exercises! I’m curious if you will find it as helpful as I do.

      • I don’t know if this is kosher or not, but I thought I’d post screen shots of the Appendix where Greer lists a reminder worksheet of all the steps.

      • The repeated as an I statement parts is what really got me.

        • I’m not sure I understand that part. Does she give an example?

          • So, for #2 you would give a literal description of the card and what is being done, etc. Then you would repeat that saying it as if it was you in the card. It’s just like what I did in my response to the two of swords. Same with #3, you name the emotions, feeling, etc. present in the card and then repeat that as if you were experiencing it. I…[Read more]

    Questioning Changing My Major

Dr. Apollo’s All Purpose Spread from Rachel Pollack
    Dreaming Way Tarot

This reading has me slightly stumped. The program I’m in is what I would like to be studying but it is extremely androcentric and the professors act like fascists. I’ve been considering changing Majors. Not a problem you’d think but my…[Read more]

    • It might be me, but the 10 of pentacles card really looks like it’s got a lot of academics/professors on it! I kind of see this as the danger of getting too embroiled in the struggle for security that goes on with or between your professors. Based on what you are saying and this card, it seems like the situation around your professors is something…[Read more]

      • Yes, I do see what you mean with the 10 pent. That is a really interesting take and think we can extend that to the administration as well because they are the ones deciding to not offer classes the people need to complete graduation requirements.
Also, I think you’re spot on about the page of pent!

    • Also, for me, the outcome of this reading really depends on the question, i.e., whether you’re asking “Should I stay in the major I have now?” OR “Should I change to the major I don’t think I like?” In this case, I’m assuming that the danger of card 3 is related to staying in your current major, but it could be a danger of changing majors instead.…[Read more]

      • I guess my question was pretty vague but if anything it ran more to “should I change my major to this one I don’t really like”.

    • Elisabeth, I like your interpretations and I think you’re really onto something. I’d love to add my 2 cents. As another struggling artist (and former art student – blarg) your problem strikes a chord. Just know I’m still a tarot student, so please stick to your own gut. If anything someone says here doesn’t resonate with you, don’t act on it.…[Read more]

      • Wow! You gave me so much to think about! Thank you!!!

        Some initial thoughts:
With the 8 of swords, “maybe just doesn’t know how to go about it.” This is really how I feel. I’m confused and my analytical mind keeps endlessly going over the issue and I feel like I’m getting nowhere with it. Very swordy.
Your decription of the Queen of cups w…[Read more]

        • I’m so glad that was relevant! So sorry to hear you’re that stuck, though. One image it calls up to mind, and something I’ve thought of a lot in my own situations, (warning: this is dorky) is that part in the first Harry Potter book when they all get caught up in Devil’s Snare – this big, chokey plant monster that crushes you faster the more you…[Read more]

          • Both of those metaphors are really good! I have gone through periods where I’m like “ok, I just need to float for a while and things will work out”. But I’ve been kind of doing that for a few semesters now and when faced with registration I get really anxious and just don’t know which way to go. My daily reading today was totally related to…[Read more]

          • By the way, I think this reading is saying what you said. The Ten of Swords is like ‘whoa! you are way overthinking’ and The Star and The Wheel of Fortune are saying just let things happen and the solution will come to you.

  • Just got ‘Chloe plus Olivia’ from the library. It’s an anthology of lesbian writing. Looks very promising. I’ll report back with details.
