We Love Documentaries 12 years, 5 months agoTV documentaries anyone? I’m in the middle of watching African American Lives 2, which is the second documentary series from Henry Louis Gates, Jr. about African American genealogy and research into the family history of some notable people like Maya Angelou, Morgan Freeman, etc. I also really want to see America: The Story of Us and Brick City.
-
Oh I just looked at my instant queue: Cosmos: The Complete Collection and This American Life are some others.
-
I watch a lot of the stuff that shows up on DocZone and The Passionate Eye, on CBC
The “Great Food Revolution” Series, from a year or two ago was really interesting. Especially the “Food of the Future” episode about “Molecular Cuisine.”
Some of the docs they’ve shown that I’ve watched in the last year or so:
The “F” Word:Who wants to be a…[Read more]

Hey, so if I were to move to Australia, or relocate there for a bit anyway, what states have the most gay friendly legislation, and what cities have high concentrations of gaywads?
-
You should probably just head straight for Newtown, Sydney really ;) This site http://wearitwithpride.com.au/ is pretty fabulous also. Enter your state/the state you’re looking at heading to and a few demogrpahic details and it will give you a run down of the relevant legislation.
-
Sounds excellent. I might also consider Woolloomooloo for the novelty of living in the most hilariously named place ever. Perhaps that is the opiates talking, but I seriously can not stop giggling about Woolloomooloo. Definitely Sydney. Newtown is the gayborhood there, right?
-
Well, if its novelty you’re after, Kangarilla, Iron Knob and Boing Boing should probably be on your list as well… Newtown is most definitely the gaybourhood.
-
Newtown is a gayborhood, but also try Glebe, Paddington and Darlinghurst… I like Newtown’s atmosphere more though, some of the other places can be a bit super fashionable, whereas Newtown feels like more of any everyone’s welcome mix.
Melbourne is a wonderful city, too, and there are also inner city suburbs with high concentrations of gaywads,…[Read more]

Woolloomooloo is a tad expensive as it’s in the city. But I just want to say that as someone who has always lived in Sydney’s lower north shore I find it incredibly safe and it has never bothered me to be my gay old self here (but then I am also fairly femme).
Also novelty town names: wogga wogga.
-
cindy where are you from on the north shore?
-
just near north sydney.
-
oh cool, i grew up in mosman!

According a study I read for uni, the lowest ranking city for homophobia is Melbourne, followed (much to my shock!) by Perth, then Sydney.
I moved to Melbourne from Perth a couple of years ago, and the gayness of the city is such a beautiful thing. Sydney’s also meant to be quite nice, I dont like it so much myself.
Good luck with move! -
I would love to talk up my city but I can’t, Adelaide is pretty shit in the homo department. My recommendation would be Melbourne, I would live in Brunswick if I could!
-
I live in Glebe (Sydney) and it is extremely queer. It’s a little expensive though – I feel like inner city suburbs like Enmore, Stanmore, Marrickville and Leichhardt are better value.
Woolloomooloo is one of the only places in Sydney where I feel concerned about my safety.
-
well, hating on canberra (where I live) is a popular pasttime here, but my mother says that it is the lesbian capital of australia. so.
