Also Working On It 8 years ago does anyone have any tips on motivation/discipline? i plan my workouts ahead of time (at least two days before), and then i have trouble following through on actually doing them. this kind of works because it makes sure i don’t set myself a workout that won’t push me just because i’m tired, but i always have trouble getting myself to get out of the house and to the gym.
I usually have to make a bargain with myself, like ‘okay if you go to the gym for the next two days then you can sit at home all Saturday eating M&Ms and watching television and not feel bad about it’. It’s not effective every time, but most times. Maybe someone else knows a way that doesn’t involve self-bribery.
This is why I had to go for team sports and why I have been lazy AF since the season ended. workout buddy? someone else to help keep you accountable?
I was just reading a book that suggested being mindful of how you talk to yourself about things. Try to avoid thinking “I should” or “I have to” etc. and instead try to focus on the positive results. For example, try to train yourself to think “I want to work out because afterwards I will feel great, it is good for my health, my skin will feel nice” etc. instead of “I should work out” or “I have to work out to stay healthy”.
I’m planning to try to use this technique to learn how to get my *** out of bed in the morning. Can’t recommend it from experience, yet, but it certainly can’t hurt!
