does anyone have any tips on motivation/discipline? i plan my workouts ahead of time (at least two days before), and then i have trouble following through on actually doing them. this kind of works because it makes sure i don’t set myself a workout that won’t push me just because i’m tired, but i always have trouble getting myself to get out of…[Read more]

    • I usually have to make a bargain with myself, like ‘okay if you go to the gym for the next two days then you can sit at home all Saturday eating M&Ms and watching television and not feel bad about it’. It’s not effective every time, but most times. Maybe someone else knows a way that doesn’t involve self-bribery.

    • This is why I had to go for team sports and why I have been lazy AF since the season ended. workout buddy? someone else to help keep you accountable?

I definitely get that feeling. I would ask at your gym if there’s anyone that can give you an orientation session for the weight room. They should be happy to show you (in a short session) how all the machines work, help you adjust things for your body (where applicable) and find a starting weight that’s comfortable for you. If they don’t want to…[Read more]

There’s good info online! I like the Breaking Muscle blog because they include women and men and emphasize safety. Youtube is also awesome to give you a visual orientation of how to do the movements safely. If you’re a beginner at weight training, the advice is to use the machines that give compound movements (uses multiple muscle groups) like…[Read more]
