Science Fictional 12 years, 3 months agoSince the internet is magical and made of awesome, I think we should all link stories that are available online! There used to be a GREAT short story collection on the SciFi channel’s website, back before they were Syfy, but it’s not up these days. There are still lots of options though! I’ll post some stuff, and you guys should post stuff…[Read more]

This is one of my favorite short stories of all time – and it was written in 1909! http://archive.ncsa.illinois.edu/prajlich/forster.html (Also, E.M. Forster was a gay man – his novel Maurice, which was about being gay in early 20th century England, wasn’t published until after his death.) It predicts the Internet!
Then there’s Charles Stross’s…[Read more]

I love Charles Stross, and Accelerando! Have you read The Atrocity Archives? Sooo good! I don’t want to give it away if you haven’t read it, but it’s a Lovecraftian horror/sf thing. For some reason the first one you linked won’t work, do you have another source for it?
-
Hmm, their server must have gone down! Here is another source (you have to download it instead of reading in the browser, but they have .pdfs) http://www.manybooks.net/titles/forstereother07machine_stops.html

I really enjoyed this! It’s pretty amazing how prescient it is.

Oh, and how could I forget Clarkesworld?! http://clarkesworldmagazine.com/ New stories monthly! And there’s the Baen free library: http://www.baen.com/library/ (mostly tend towards military SF which isn’t really my bag, but others might be interested!)
-
Yes! I love Clarkesworld! The newer link to that story works, I’ll check it out today. Here are some other links to sites with a bunch of SF stories:

http://freesfonline.de/index.html
And this isn’t stuff you can read, but here is an awesome awesome SF radio series from the 1950’s that you can listen to…[Read more]-
Also, I want to focus on giving people specific recommendations, so I’ll try to think of some really good ones from those sites, otherwise I feel like they might be a little overwhelming.

Fencestraddlers 12 years, 4 months agobi-dykes unite!?!
-
or, you know, whatever (non)label you wish to use.
-
Glad I’m not the only one who thinks “dyke” is not exclusive to lesbians but applies to all women-loving women. I got five or six 0-star ratings on AfterEllen for expressing that.
-
I hate afterellen forums, it’s full of a lot of angry people for some reason.
-
Yeah, I agree – and I don’t understand why. But the biphobia in particular has been out of control lately.
-
I’ve never ventured over to the aftellen forums, but I love the word dyke. to me, it means a strong, confident lady-lovin’ lady, regardless of other labels…also, this comic changed my life in terms of stopping my own internalized bi-phobia: http://liliane.comicgenesis.com/

My parents didn’t initially believe *I* was bi but they definitely believe in bisexuals in general (and they’ve come around about my sexuality, too). I’m sorry you’re dealing with that. It really enrages me when people say bisexuality doesn’t exist. I found out a lot of my gay guy friends think women can be bisexual but men can’t, and it…[Read more]
Mine are more of the “everyone’s a bit bisexual, why do you have to make a fuss” school.
