Where are you Columbus people?! Any OSU students/alum? O-H…
Here I am!
Hello! So do you currently go to OSU? What are you studying? I’m still kind of new to Columbus since I transferred from a Pittsburgh college a year ago. I love it here though!
I graduated from U of Akron last December. I studied Sociology and Criminology. I am also kind of new to Columbus. I moved here for a job, that i passionately dislike and I don’t really know anyone.
Really?! I grew up near Akron! I played in a lot of chess tournaments at UoA, and I was always going to concerts at Musica! Plus, most of my high school went to Akron, Kent, or Youngstown State. I ended up in Chatham University in Pittsburgh, then transferred to OSU since I got more fin aid/scholarships, and my gf is here. Despite the passionately disliked job, do you like Columbus? I definitely prefer it to me home town and everywhere else I lived. Then again, I lived in one of those tiny farm villages where everyone is mean if you are not a straight Christian…
I feel like i could like Columbus. There is so much to do here. However, i work far to much to enjoy anything. But I do prefer it over the hometown simply because my extremely Conservative Christian family does not live here. What are you studying at OSU?
I loved Columbus from the first time I came here. My firs time visiting was actually with my dad when I was in 8th grade. We came here for the weekend to see a Christian concert. I also came for a few weekends in high school for church events like OhiomTeens for Christ. After high school, I would visit about every month because m best friend whose been my gf for a while now, was going to OSU while I was in Pittsburgh. We both went to the same church since 8th grade, and we were both very involved because there was nothing else to do in our town. We liked each other back then, and we especially liked being smushed together I the church vans and the little hotel beds together for our church trips, but we wouldn’t admit we were gay. Everyone thought we were a couple since we met though. Anyway, we got out of that horrible fundamental conservative Christian town to become the bad college students we were warned about. We have nothing to do with church, and I’m now a happy atheist (because of many reasons, not just because my horrible hometown, more because I went to seminary and religion really makes no sense now), and my gf is actually Wiccan, so everyone back home really hates us for being a godless lez couple! They also hate that I was originally a good littleEnglish major until I decided to double major in English and Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, which was the best decision ever. It gave me the chance to meet some other gay students and gay professors, and Coumbus is full both of those!
Well, now you know quite a bit about me! Since this is my second year in Columbus and my gf’s third year, we know a lot of fun and cheap things to do in Columbus. Maybe when we are not in class and she’s not at her grooming job an I’m not at my cheese monger job, and you’re nit busy, w can do something if you’d like :). Have you been to Jeni’s ice cream, Schmidts, Wallstreet, or Surley Girl? Pretty much everything in Short North and Clintonville is awesome. Cville even has a little lesbian bakery :). Do you live around those places? What kind of job do you do now that you’re out of college?
(hope you don’t mind the long response!)
Well Shoot. I guess ill tell you a little bit about myself. I grew up in the church. It wasn’t an option in my household. I went to a mega church and everybody knew my family because of how involved we were. Literally, i can’t go anywhere in Akron without knowing someone from church. My parents kept me EXTREMELY sheltered. College, although only five minutes down the road, was like whole another country. To say it was eye opening would be an understatement. College was also when i realized people were gay/ i was gay. When i shared this with my family, they all agreed to never speak of it again. My mother still cries sometimes when she sees me ( I’m the only girl and they had so many expectations for me that i didn’t come close to meeting). I wanted to get away but not to far, so i got a job in Columbus to work at a correctional facility. It’s my bosses and 16 hours shifts that i hate. I used to average about 60 hours a week, just cut it down to 50.
I would love to hang out! The only people i know down here are incarcerated. All my co-worked just want to go to bars and I’m not a huge drinker. I’ve been to Jeni’s. Love the ice cream, not the price. I want to go to Surely Girl and Wallstreet even though i don’t/can’t dance. I’ve never been to a gay bar! Did i mention that I’m extremely shy? Oh, I live in Olde Towne East.
Ahhh! I just typed a bunch of stuff, and something made it go away :/ Well, here is most of what I was about to say… I’m glad you didn’t have a worse coming out experience, not that it sounds exactly pleasant. I have some friends who were literally thrown out of their parents’ homes and were left to pay for everything on their own. That kind if happened to my girlfriend since her dad is a youth minister at a horrible farm town church that believes that everyone but them are going to hell; if you aren’t baptized correctly, you’ll go to hell, or if you go to a different denomination church, you will go to hell. Stephanie (my gf) and I actually got kicked out of that church two summers ago when her dad forced us to go. We sat at the balcony, and a few families said that we were making out and that my gf was taking off my pants. The only thing we did was share a box of chocolate and we had our arms kind of around each other, the way people rest their arms on the pews. Stupid homophobes… Anyway, hopefully your family becomes more accepting. I hate how families think that it is such a bid deal, and such a difficult thing when their kid comes out; it’s not like it isn’t a big deal on us, the gay kids… Speaking of families, do you have any siblings or pets?
MY gf and I are glad to hear that you’d liek to hang out! Like I mentioned before, I haven’t had much time for social stuff with my job(s) and school, same with my gf. The friends she did have earlier in college are no longer her friends since they only hang out with straight Christians, and my gf is clearly neither. So what kind of things do you like to do when you aren’t stuck at work? Aside from my not so social interests of reading and video games, I basically love going out to eat. My favorite thing to do is go out and find restaurants with interesting food. And like pretty much everyone else, I like going to movies, usually at The Gate Way by campus since it is only $6 at anytime with a student ID. I’m also a fan of cheap/free things, like going to some of the awesome nature trails. I love biking, but someone ran over my bike, so its dead body is still chained to a post on campus :/ My latest interest is exploring our new neighborhood. My gf and I moved from a really bad area around Easton to the Skyview Towers right outside of downtown and Old Town North, so are probably kinda close to you. And like you, I HATE dancing. Even if I’m really drunk, I still don’t dance; I’m not much of a drinker, well not to get drunk because I’m a light weight. I just like to drink with dinner. I’m turning into a wine snob since I am a certified cheese monger…cheese snob… at a gourmet cheese shop, so don’t be surprised if I try to force cheese on you! Do you generally have the same schedule? Mine is never the same, but is usually somewhat similar, so just let me know if/when you’d like to meet up for food or something, and feel free to bring a friend! Speaking of plans, do you have any Thanksgiving plans?
I should tell you straight away. I HATE cheese. I will only eat it on pizza. But i do love food. One thing I love about the Short North is all the restaurants. I want to go to ALL of them. Have you been to Hound Dogs? I feel like it’s close to where you live. I love that place!! When I’m not at work, I like getting lost in Columbus. I’ll drive around until i get lost and try to find my way back home. And i get on the internet a lot. I love music but I’ve never been to a concert. Something else I plan on doing. I enjoy hookah, its the only thing I’ll smoke. I like nature but am allergic to everything under the sun. Including my own dog!. Nothing a little Zyrtec can’t fix. I haven’t been to a movie in almost a year but i do enjoy them.
My days off are Wednesday and Thursday. If your free on those days, I’d love to do something. The rest of the week, I work anytime from 10am- 6am the next day. My assigned times are 2pm-10pm. But I often have to work overtime. I’m going home for Thanksgiving. I have three brothers and a dog. Can’t wait to see them. I miss my dog more than my family. Do you have any pets?
…I-O! (I can’t believe you didn’t receive this sooner.)
