Hey Autostraddlers. So I’m trying to get into the London ‘scene’ but have no-one to go with or any clue of where is decent these days! Any recommendations/friendly people I could buddy up with? BR x

Please all, check out this wonderful vegan magazine called Chickpea. I just read the first issue in one go, and it’s amazing! chickpea-magazine.tumblr.com/

Hello, so I was chatting to a fellow Autostraddler last night and we were thinking how it might be a good idea to organise some sort of meet up for the UK and Ireland people. There’s a dyke march on in London on the 31st of March so meeting up at that could be a possibility? Let me know what you think anyway, I think it’d be nice to meet some of…[Read more]

I’m up for it!

Savage, well, I suppose we could all meet at a certain place in central London before the march and then go out afterwards too! Im heading over with about 7 ladies from here so we’d all love to meet up with any UK Autostraddlers that want to join us! :) Im not sure where we can meet up, but i’ll ask round and see where’s best!

I am reading Eating Animals by Johnathan Safran Foer at the moment, and I feel so sad and so alone. Others, like my friends, don’t understand my values and priorities, and this book is so haunting with its truths about suffering and all the things that are wrong with the bioindustry. Does this feel familiar? What do you do when you feel like this?…[Read more]

i have had this book for a year or so now and still haven’t read it, but i know where you’re coming from. i tried bringing it up in conversation to no avail. no one wants to hear that what they eat is bad in so many ways that you don’t have enough fingers to count them on. i’ve just learned to let it go, but do find my self spewing out info every…[Read more]

I feel like this sometimes. Here’s my advice (it has REALLY helped me a lot): 1. Listen to vegan podcasts. I recommend “Vegetarian Food for Thought” and “Our Hen House.” They are both really wonderful for different reasons, and they give me a lot of hope. VFfT has different episodes for each subject, and there are a few on what you’re talking…[Read more]

Oh, and I meant vegan and/or vegetarian for all of these tips. I just realized I typed “vegan” for everything, but I definitely meant both! lol it’s because I have a vegan blog and stuff, so I’m just so much more used to that word.
-
Thanks Cathy! Have you got any tips as to how I find out about vegan meetups in the area? (I live in Europe, so it might be different from the US.)
-
Hi! Sorry it took me so long to respond – I don’t get emails from autostraddle for some reason…
Anyway, do you have Facebook? I would start there… Also, google to see when the next Vegetarian Food Festival is in your area…. they have one in most major cities at least once a year, and you’re likely to meet members of groups you can link up…[Read more]

hi! I’m octo-lavo veggie right now, but I would really like to be more vegan-y. But I’m 15, and I can’t actually buy my own food. help?

well you could tag along and go grocery shopping with whoever usually does it at your house and ask get things you would like to eat. if you like making food stuffs you could look up a recipe and pick up those ingredients on said grocery trip and make the a comment like “man, i really want to cut down on my cheese/milk/eggs. oh look at these…[Read more]

Give the person who’s responsible for cooking a Isa Chandra Moskowitz-cooking book as a present this Christmas! Or, even better, buy one for yourself and start cooking! Say you have picked a new hobby and start by cooking yourself for a day a week, if you have the time of course. :)

I don’t think there is anywhere decent in central London these days – First Out recently closed. There are a couple of nice lesbian bars in north London – the Oak Bar on Green Lanes or Blush in Stoke Newington. I’ve never been to the Oak Bar, but Blush is cool and welcoming to peeps on their own.
hey I’d be happy to come out with you to a few places, I’ve tried a couple places in soho which are good but wouldn’t mind to try some new places too. Send me a PM, I’m away on holidays from the 4-18th of Feb but before or after is ok :)
hello, am having the same dilemma myself, so would certainly be up for meeting up and heading to some places. i can’t believe there is a lesbian bar in stoke newington – i live here and had no idea! (then again, i am relatively new to both stokey and gayness…) let me know if any plans materialise/message me and we could organise something!
awesome, I am going to send you a message you when I get back from China in 2 weeks, maybe the 3 of us could meet up!
yes, do it! have an amazing time in china, very jealous!
Great idea! Have a great time.
Oh oh can I join too? Same predicament: live in London don’t know where to go, also live sort of near stoke newington and had no idea about that bar!
Anyway would be great if someone could pm me if you make plans :)
when we make any plans we’ll let you all know! i’m going to push blush – purely because it is near my house and i am lazy.
I am also fairly new to London, it would be ace to meet up with some other people looking to get to know the city. I’d love to be included in any plans that develop :)
Me too, yes yes! (except replace ‘fairly’ with ‘brand’)
This is going to be awesome! We’re going to need name badges at this rate. Any suggestions on a good meet-up venue?
me too, please!!! I might know a couple of places in East London, like around Brick Lane or so…
PS China? How cool is that!
AS meet up:
28th Tuesday February. 8:30pm. KU bar:
30 Lisle st Soho WC2H WBA London.
We’ll have a chat and party at Ruby Tuesday (closest tube is Leicester sq)
