The Great Library of Autostraddle 12 years agoMap of Ireland by Stephanie Grant is set in Boston in the 1970’s and deals with coming out and race issues from the perspective of a teenage girl. I watched The Weather Underground documentary not too long ago which turned out to be great historical context for this book.

The Great Library of Autostraddle 12 years agoSince the summer book club ended, I’ve cut back on my reading because so much stuff has come up. But I haven’t stopped entirely!
I read Speak Daggers to Her by Rosemary Edgehill. It’s a really unique urban fantasy/mystery book. The main character, who goes by the name Bast, is a graphic designer in New York whose friend is found dead. Bast…[Read more]

The Great Library of Autostraddle 12 years agoI’m reading Huntress (Malinda Lo) and she’s one of the first LGBT authors I’ve read and I can’t put it down at all
-
She’s on my to read list! I need to bump her up on my list.
-
Ooh, is it good? I read ‘Ash’ and loved it, but my library doesn’t have ‘Huntress.’ I was planning to get it through interlibrary loan after I’ve whittled down my pile of unread books at home first. But should I bump it up?
-
I personally like Huntress much more than Ash.. Recommended!!!

-
both of her novels are wonderful – i also love following her blog.

The Great Library of Autostraddle 12 years agoFreedom (Jonathan Franzen) before bed (takes forever because, despite its beauty, I do fall asleep too quickly) and A Vist form the Goon Squad (Jennifer Egan) during the day. Both gorgeous, compelling and making me feel very inadequate.

The Great Library of Autostraddle 12 years agoin the middle of ender’s game…I had pretty low expectations, but it’s amazeballs so far.
-
I don’t know why you would ever have low expectations for the greatest book ever. IT IS SO GOOD.
Read ender’s shadow next! -
‘Ender’s Game’ is a fantastic book. The sequels, not so much. And Orson Scott Card has become completely unhinged in recent years.
-
the author might have gone off the rails but his shadow series / parallel novels are solid, in my opinion. just stay away from his offical mormon writings #hateful
-
also, just wanna say, ender’s game is my all time favorite book
