The Great Library of Autostraddle 12 years, 4 months agoI just want to thank Autostraddle for bringing Andrea Gibson to my full attention (and the rest of the Pure Poetry series too obviously…). Sure I’d heard of her before but did I ever *really* listen?
I got ‘Pole Dancing to Gospel Hymns’ this morning and it is so addictive. I keep sneaking peeks at it in my work breaks. She’s just so lyrical. I…[Read more]-
I’m a huge fan of just about everything Catherynne Valente writes, poetry or prose. I got one of her poetry books recently, A Guide to Folktales in Fragile Dialects, and it was brilliant. It explores and reinterprets women’s roles in folktale motifs. It’s more fun than I make it sound, I swear ;)
She’s also got this epic poem going online…[Read more]

Thanks for this. ‘Palimpsest’ is on my ‘to read’ list but perhaps her poetry will be a good place to start. The retelling of folktales and myths sounds like something I’d enjoy.
As for Parker, I like her poetry as well (Symptom Recital is superb!) but I’ve never been able to get into her stories.

”liking” dozens of dumb quotes at a time. i.e, http://www.fblike.net/ constantly sending game invites. orrrr invites to events you might really want to attend if they weren’t happening in a completely different city/country. constantly changing relationship statuses (i don’t really talk to anyone who does that anymore, but it used to be a thing)
-
those “do you think (your name) is smart/attractive/funny click here to unlock the answer” spam things. “like my status and i’ll tell you (some pointless bit of trivia)” type updates. idk if i’m on the right track here
-
UGH and then there isn’t even an answer behind it.

i hate that shit :.|

bumper stickers used to be a thing. also games like mafia wars/frontierville/farmville. i think they’re dying down? or maybe it’s because i block them all i don’t notice anymore.
-
I think everything about Facebook is stupid, but that may be because I’m turning into a cranky old fogey.
I think Farmville-type games have got to be the worst, though. “Games” where the prize is to play less of the game, which incorporate guilt and nagging your supposed friends constantly? No thank you. -
posting about illegal stuff you did and/or the affair you are having.

Near hourly status updates, all day, everyday – these people get blocked from my newsfeed. Farmville, and other similar games – and sending me invites to any of these things. People who constantly post WAY TMI about their relationships/current emotional state. People who seem to change their relationship status on a near daily basis. People who…[Read more]

group for riese to ask people questions about things/information she needs for some post 12 years, 4 months agowhat was that photo shoot where lindsay lohan was really fucked up and i think said something weird about samantha ronson? it was like in 2009 or 2010 and i can’t remember who it was for, she was like sort of stumbling around and was like upset because she wanted to leave and go out after being really late
-
here’s this one from 2010 for the show “Double Exposure”: http://www.eonline.com/uberblog/marc_malkin/b187374_lindsay_lohan_was_10_hours_late_photo.html
nothing about sam ronson though.-
no there’s like a video – – i remember not knowing about it at the time, and then finding it recently and talking to someone about it on g-chat and i was like “how did i miss this?” because i’d sort of always said she was probably fine and people were exaggerating
-
-
ummm…is it the one where they mention some party and she says ‘and sam can dj’? Or the Elle one where she was 12 hours late?
I remember that whole time and being of the same mind that people were exaggerating, I forget when I actually realized that yeah she was real fucked up…maybe when the whole Ronson visit/freakout happened.

Autostraddle Summer Book Club 2011 12 years, 4 months ago@internrachel and @julia1, i had just finished Run for Your Life and though it is very interesting, it hadn’t quite reached my favorite book isle (in my head of coarse). Could it have been that it was easy to tell what was going to happen next, most of the time it was.Or the sprinkling of ‘ you got any balls?’ and ‘be a man!’ that made me want to…[Read more]

Autostraddle Summer Book Club 2011 12 years, 4 months agoJust finished Full Frontal Feminism by Jessica Valenti (270 pages).
It was good, but I got kind of bored in some parts because it kept telling me statistics that I already knew, and there were also some parts I just plain wasn’t interested in. However, the vast majority of the book was fast paced and interesting, full of really interesting and…[Read more] -

Autostraddle Summer Book Club 2011 12 years, 4 months agoI spent the day reading Brokeback Mountain, by Annie Proulx (55 pages) and Candy Girl: A year in the life of an unlikely stripper, by Diablo Cody (212 pages). I found out about Candy Girl from someone else in this group and it was fun to read, so I didn’t put it down until I was finished. I liked the part where she went shopping for the first…[Read more]

Yay I’m so glad I got someone else to read it!
“reminds me of that time about 4 years back when shoes that looked like stripper heels were showing up in stores all over and I secretly kind of wanted a pair.” I KNOW RIGHT-
Hehe, I’m so glad you said that. She mentioned the brand that was comfortable and I was just like “…noted.”

Autostraddle Summer Book Club 2011 12 years, 4 months agoI finally picked up the top book on my stack of lesbian books to read and I’m so glad I did. I read the classic lesbian novel Rubyfruit Jungle by Rita Mae Brown (tickled pink that she shares a name with my girlfriend’s bigot of a mother) that runs 246 pages long. The narration flops unexpectedly between past and present tense and there are edi…[Read more]
