Music Addicts Annonymous 12 years, 6 months agoi just inherited a turntable, but i don’t own any vinyl. i’m going to invest in some but can’t decide where to start. suggestions?
-
that’s exactly what i was thinking. plus, i feel that if i buy a record that doesn’t come with a download code, i can feel a little less guilty about pirating the digital copies of the tunes. i already paid way more for the record than i would have for the iTunes album or the CD anyway!

The best thing you can do is get to be friends with your local independent record shop owner/employees because sometimes they will hook you up/hold things you really want/generally just be super-awesome friends. (PS. Lesbians work at these places.) Also, religiously checking thrift shops if you like any classic rock/jazz/80s hair metal will get…[Read more]

I second the thrift shop suggestion. Investing in newly released vinyl albums becomes tres expensive, be selective. Check out yard sales, thrift shops, markets and your friends-parents basements (the best source bc it’s normally free) – you’ll find some awesome classics (assuming you’re into that). Record stores tend to be overpriced.

Oooh, new people :) so, how is everyone? Who is everyone?
-
hey! I’m Tara from Adelaide… and I’m doing fairly good today (aside from a minor case of sniffles!!)
How are you…and who are you and what do you do? Aside from straddling…-
Oh you know, I straddle all day long :) what do I do – theoretically I work in a community legal practice and I am in my final year of uni – really mostly I just procrastinate. Also, I used to be from Adelaide! Nice town, I still miss it.
-
Nothing beats a good bit of straddling!! tehehe! I’m a great fan of procrastination… I believe I majored in it at uni, but then I left! And now I work in pharmacy playing with little old ladies drugs..! But I am thinking about going back to uni next year (if I can save enough money!!) What are you studying?
-
Yeah, uni is a financially tough act, hey. I’m pretty tired of being poor! What do you think you’ll study? Um, I’m writing an honours thesis on Australian citizenship at the moment, but the less said about it the better… it’s due in a month, eek!
-
I would like to study Womens studies and International Studies as a double degree (I did Int studies for a bit before and loved it) buuut it would have to be cross-institution because only one uni here offers Womens studies and it is the only one in the state which doesn’t offer Int studies.. Which means it could be a little messy!
That sounds…[Read more]

-
Cool Lyz, how do you like Port Douglas? What made you come over from the States?
-
Its BEAUTIFUL, I’m here on a working holiday visa for a year, but I’m trying to get my second year visa. I’ve wanted to come here since I was 6, so when the opportunity came up I flew down.

I am leaving Oz in a couple of months myself… hopefully this is just a space for people who are in / are from / want to be from / particularly like Australia :)
Queer film and Vienna sounds amazing though… I confess to profile stalking you a little!
