Femme Straddlers 12 years, 4 months agoMy icon Lez or otherwize is the character: Anaksunamun in “The Mummy”, remember the opening scene? She lets everyone know how desireable she is and only just a select few may get a chance to be with her. No one else can compare… :)

Ugh she’s gorgeous! I used to do my makeup like her when I was a teenager. But I’m an egyptology geek. :)

Me too, in fact I have two small Ancient Egyptian tatts. On the back of each shoulder, I have one tatt of the ankh and one tatt of “the eye of horus”. I LOVE ancient Egypt!!! :) I liked to think I lived in those days…
-
Ok we are fast friends girlfriend. Haha. I have so many books on Egypt you wouldn’t even believe it! I would be an archaeologist if there was more money in it right now. I wanted to study anthropology and acheology and photography to be a national geographic photographer and work with the museum at Cairo. But maybe someday. I totally get the past…[Read more]

Haha I type too fast for my phone. I was talking about my son up there. :)

Hi Kerlia,
My name is Judi, thanks for adding me as a friend… I just found this site recently. :)
I agree about Archaeology and the pay… Also I have yet been to the Giza and sooo want to go, but a tad nervous about the political climate there.
About being a national geo photographer, hey you are still so very young, you can and will do…[Read more]

Thanks for the encouragement! But yeah I totally agree anything is possible!
Haha yea I have been the ten commandments and many other old films. I have practicly been them all. My family was active in the beauty scene in old Hollywood so I’ve met a lot of the old movie stars. And the end result being seeing all their movies lol I’ve also seen…[Read more]-
Hi Kerlia,
Hope all is well, how is my ancient Egyptian friend? How is Rockwood doing?? I am in Pismo Beach… I think that is cool with what your family did… totally cool!! I love that stuff. :)
All the best from Pismo!!

Femme Straddlers 12 years, 4 months agoHi Femmes. Question, who is your still icon? Lesbian or otherwise?
Coz I would have to say mine are definitely Santana (glee) and the twins from Skins!
I think they all dress amazingly! So proud to have the femme lesbian representing in the media!-
Really interesting question! I suppose I have never thought about specific ‘femme’ icons… more queer icons on the one hand, and feminine icons on the other… like I admire Rachel Maddow, but if I could dress like anyone, I would dress like Dita von Teese (who I note was seriously involved with a woman in her twenties!).
Now that you mention…[Read more]

Probably Fit for a Femme (I don’t know her name, do people just refer to her as FFAF?)
Totally cured me of my femme angst. Plus, she introduced me to the top knot, which means that I know longer have to wash my super curly hair tangly everyday to look presentable. Awesome.
But really, she seems so confident in who she is, and every time I read a…[Read more] -
My icon is the Hogwarts Express cause I suck at cropping.
Serious answer: Shar Rednour, my friend Megan, Felicia Luna Lemus, a whole stack of Tumblr celebriqueer femme bloggers

The first person that comes to mind is Amber Heard. It started when I saw pictures of her in that red dress at the GLAAD awards where she officially came out. I love a vintage-inspired outfit.
-
I can’t say I have any celeb/visible femme icons that inspire me, though I’m glad to see femmes represented in the media. I do however sort of look up to my adoptive gay aunts Jackie and Deb who have been rocking their femme sides for decades and look hot even in their 50s.

Femme Straddlers 12 years, 4 months agoHow do femme straddlers express themselves fashion-wise? I seem to switch between 50s gal and indie nerd :D

Day to day: (and a lot of events): dark jeans, fitted black v-neck t shirts, black boots and statement necklace. The occasional wrap/a-line/shirtdress with an interesting pattern. Getting into the tights-with-shorts thing this summer because I’m at the upper age bracket for looking cute and not silly.
Work/Some events: A black blazer makes…[Read more]-
Nice, sounds both classy and comfortable :) I love a statement necklace with blacks and boots, a great way to inject a bit of character without going OTT. Also, you folk dance? Awesome!

I contra :D Especially techno contra when I can manage it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pt6BhNSpoRY (A lot of hot nerdy gay girls and other queer folk are into it, surprisingly enough)

At work I try for classics/basics with a little bit of a sharp edge. Lot of grayscale, minimal color pops, clean straight lines, very little in the way of patterns or pastels or soft ruffly anything. If I could steal Kalinda(of the Good Wife)’s wardrobe I would in a heartbeat. I dunno how you would sum up her style? Biz-badass-caz?
The rest of my…[Read more]

Clothes of questionable taste are the best kind. I have a black t-shirt that is shirred/cut up and put together/threaded with maroon yarn and thread, with a subtle print of two fairies having sex on the back near the right hip. Best 3 euro I ever spent.
-
That sounds AMAZING.

YESSSSSSSSSSS distressed tees yesssssssssssssss. My bestie who knows me ALL to well just gave me a hot pink WWJJD (What Would Joan Jett Do) oversize tee that I cannot wait to tear up and put back together. Yours sounds fab :)

Ok! I actually have not watched the Good Wife before, so I googled the character, and, OMG, super hot. Femme but with a certain energy that makes her edgy rather than sweet. Mmm.
In other news, I really like your workwear. I quit my office job to work in a community organisation, but I used to wear: sleeveless sheath dress made from suit…[Read more]

That sounds like an awesome getup! Yeah, I find that it works out pretty well for me to have my dual identity: sharp biz caz something-or-other at work and totally grungily inappropriate on weekends. Even though I feel like the latter is more “authentic,” I’d definitely miss the put-together alter ego if it were no longer called for in my life.…[Read more]

I love AA, so I sort of switch between over the top colours with lots of short skirts and dresses to a bit of a nerd or even sometimes punkish look.
