The Great Library of Autostraddle 10 years, 7 months ago….it says Nightstand…..so we’re not talking about what’s in the bed, stacked at the foot of the bed, or between the bed and the wall. nothing’s under the bed because the mattress is on the floor.
ohh those coveted Nightstand spots. You’re either an Old Favorite or have exceptionally silky paper or we’ve just met or i want to have you close to…[Read more]

The Great Library of Autostraddle 10 years, 7 months agoon the nightstand/bed currently– “dear life” by alice munro and “chelsea whistle” by michelle tea. (anyone else got anything?)
-
i have no idea who they are but both the authors’ names are horribly familiar. am looking into this Presently

michelle tea is one of those love her or hate her authors (in my experience from, umm, spirited discussions with friends). i think valencia is her best work though rent girl is fascinating for its format alone. alice munro is one of the best living storytellers. literally anything you pick up by her (and she’s been writing for decades) is crazy-good.

aghhhhh with recs that good i’ll be taking a trip to the library tomorrow!

i have a perpetual rotation from bed to nightstand so i included my 2 that are in current movement. my actual full nightstand stack is over a foot high… not sure if that is a good or bad thing… (other than the nabokov i don’t know the other books you listed– any good?)
that’s the thing about the Nightstand; there’s always some unknowns that are there just because they’re next in the queue! normally i get into crazy compulsive ruts with the authors i like and it takes me forever to branch out. sometimes i’ll think this is really v. bad sooooo.
the honeyB is my foray into the romance novel genre. it takes place…[Read more]

it was meant to be mine and you know it!!!! my god. i used to work in a rare book dept. of a company and x-libris markings [though necessary] were the bane of my existence.
[definitely gave me some ideas about perforating everyone in my home library with my first, middle, confirmation, and Last, though.]
true story– some things are just meant to be… like the copy of “the last unicorn” on vhs i “accidentally” didn’t return to blockbuster when i was 9 and still have… even though i bought it on dvd 10 years ago…
aghhhhh! i no longer have a functional vcr!! do you?!
ummm… lolz i only realize no, i don’t, when you asked… i am pretty sure my parents do… someone somewhere must… (this is probably why i ended up getting the movie on dvd– it is just following my own destiny that allowed me to keep it on vhs, for, umm, years since i last had an actual vhs player)
