Seattlestraddle 12 years, 5 months agoI wish the you do you sticker I just got in the mail was a car sticker – then I could put it in my window and we would see each other on the freeway. Who are all of you? Where are you hiding?

The Great Library of Autostraddle 12 years, 5 months agoRay Bradbury’s Zen and the Art of Writing is on the top of the massive pile. When I say massive, I mean like 30+ books. It’s a big nightstand. And a perilous pile.

The Great Library of Autostraddle 12 years, 5 months agoI was in The Book People in Moscow, ID (which is closing! Boo!) today and found a copy of Catherynne Valente’s ‘A Guide to Folk Tales in Fragile Dialects’ and I damn near orgasmed in the store. All you Pure Poetry lovers need to get this! She does such tasty things to words.

The Great Library of Autostraddle 12 years, 5 months agoi just started reading ‘the god of small things’ by arundhati roy, anyone have any thoughts about it? all i can think as an appreciater of salman rushdie is that no one can out-rushdie rushdie.

I ended up really disliking that book, but I don’t want to spoil it by telling you why! The language is pretty, but it didn’t feel like the best I’ve ever experienced, either. It’s one of my bestie’s favorite books, so I went into it with high hopes.
-
i TRIED to read it, but failed miserably.
-
I LOVE that book. I must have read it several times now, mostly because I studied it for English A-level. Sad as hell though.
But I always thought that if they made a film of it, Rahel would be *stunning*
I think it’s the type of book that needs to be read more than once, so you can understand it properly.
-
ok so i finished it. overall i thought it was average, i don’t know that it deserved a booker prize, that’s for sure.

The Great Library of Autostraddle 12 years, 5 months agoLadies do you use a Kindle/Nook/Ipad or are you faithful to old-fashioned books?
Are you thinking of upgrading?-
I’ve thought about a Kindle or an iPad, but there’s just something about an actual book that I love. There’s a heft, a smell, a feeling that those bound pages exude. Electronic book readers are light and sterile, and at this point in my life, I can only see myself using one if I were traveling extensively and needed to conserve space/weight. For…[Read more]

I love books (they smell so good!) and I love having the physical copy, but I’m thinking of downloading an ebook reader for my iPod Touch because I’m also kind of a hoarder and my book collection is getting ridiculous.
-
I have a hard time processing information that I read on a screen (even Autostraddle is in one ear, out the other :/ ). So I think e-readers are not for me. Also, I am a design snob and every e-reader I’ve looked at completely trashes the font/page-layout.
-
I have a Kindle, but I still read regular books on occasion because there is no replacing the feel and smell of a book. However, I find the Kindle is great to put queer books on for those of us not yet out of the closet, because you can make it password protected. Also, books tend to only cost about six or seven dollars. So that’s awesome. But I…[Read more]

I spend all day reading pages of writing/comics on a screen, so I’ve stayed true to my zillions of books that fill every nook of my apartment.
-
Even the fancy kindle screens make my eyes hurt after awhile, so I’ve stayed with regular books. Plus, why would I ever give up the satisfaction of closing the last pages after finally finishing a long book?

On the bus, mostly #publictransportationisslow
Much of my time not spent commuting is spent hiding in libraries.
Hiding? I’m not hiding! Find me at UW, in Capitol Hill coffee shops with unlimited wi-fi, riding my bike when the sun shines (actually all the time, even in the rain) and playing pub trivia. See me? Say hey!
Also, I’m a cat wearing a hoody so I should be easy to spot.
Me too! I’m glad there’s more than one of us here. meow
Also, what pub is good to trivia at?
Hey twinsy. I ‘specially like the Hopvine Trivia (on CapHill; every 2nd and 4th Tuesday 8pm; $3/teammate) but there are other good (and free) ones around.
Hey! I’m the host at Hopvine Trivia! Thanks for liking my trivia night! :)
Also, I am a fan of Movie Cat Trivia at Central Cinema, if anyone is up for something that specific. It’s once a month, $5 food & beverage voucher.
I feel like it would be fun to have a straddle trivia night at some point. Does anyone else feel this way?

I am typing out hearts to encourage you to respond
Coffee shops in Capitol Hill are my favorite places. Everyone has alternative lifestyle haircuts! This makes it harder to identify the queers quickly, but it also makes everybody 100% cuter.
yes, heart. maybe like, 350 %
Though there’s never any parking in cap hill, so I spend my time at the only coffee shop that also has vegan waffles in the CD. Also because I live in the CD.
I spend my time at the only coffee shop with vegan waffles in the CD and live in the CD, SMALL WORLD, maybe we have looked at each other. That blue hoodie rings a bell.
I find the coffee in Capitol Hill to be tastier too, although that could be because I’m looking at yummy girls.
