Does anyone have any advice about going out to eat with a group of people when you’re vegan? I haven’t really had this problem a lot because I’m homeschooled and don’t go out much, but I’m going off to college next year and will hopefully have real friends.
I always feel like a pain because I hate salad and a lot of other places don’t have good…[Read more] -

Okay girls (and boys! Are there boys? Hi!):
Do any of you camp? I’m going into the woods for two weeks with a bunch of students, and I’ve never really done vegetarian camping. Esp since I have to prepare meat-foods for my students. I haven’t cooked meat in a while… argh.
Since I won’t have fresh veggies or anything, what do you recommend…[Read more]

I’ve seen several different brands of single-serve shelf-stable hummus, would that do? My go-to when hiking is hummus, crackers, and raisins.

ok i do alot of veggie camping and have several go tos i use. though i’m not quite sure since you wont have fresh veggies (is that because of a backpack space thing?) assuming you will have access to fire and a pan i dice all the veggies up prior to leaving. make a container of tofu scramble, premade blk bean burgers, chopped root vegetables to…[Read more]

I’m running out of ways to eat vegetables besides in a salad. What the hell else can I do with them?? (I’ve been a vegan for 6 months.)
-
I do try that but my problem is that I am so bad at cooking that I don’t know what seasonings to use to get the desired taste. (Say if I was in the mood for Indian…)
And… I think I may be the only lesbian in the world that doesn’t like hummus. I should try your stir-fry idea tonight! Because god if I eat one more salad. -
you can buy loads of premade sauces in the supermarket or asian supermarkets.
I eat burgers with a veggie pattie, curries (thai, indian and japanese), casseroles, pasta, stir-fries, sushi, wraps.
I’d recommend looking up recipies online, that way you can follow them to the Tee, until you can work out things for yourself.

Roasting them or grilling them is yum.
Put them in a stew or soup or gazpacho in the summer when it’s freakishly hot.
Steam them with a little bit of salt, garlic, mustard seeds, butter, or really anything else. I like everything with curry.
Stir frying is delicious.
Put them between bread and eat them as a sammich. Gotta love sammiches.
Or,…[Read more]-
I’ll try all of these suggestions. Thanks!

I need to finish my thesis omg. What are you all writing about?
-
i still have 3 more years to go but i will be writing about my research on utilizing small molecule modulators to elucidate the role of mitochondria in diseases, alzheimer’s disease in particular. what about you? good luck with your thesis, you can do it!
-
I’m essentially done with grad school, but life and my thesis have been kicking my ass. I’m writing about the potential for preserving historical sites on the moon, using the Antarctic Treaty and the World Heritage List as precedence. I know, it’s kinda out there, but it’s fun.

sorry. simpler version for mine is using small molecules to study alzheimer’s disease/looking for drugs to cure it

Mine is “Do homeless LGBT youth face more discrimination within the foster/shelter system than non-LGBT youth”
or something to that effect.

I am officially headed to Duke Divinity School in the fall to start on an M.Div. I’m guessing I’m a distinct minority within this minority group. But still. I’m so excited for the NC weather. + education, ofc.

Salad is usually horrible, agreed! I don’t know where you’re based, but Indian(/Pakistani/Bangladeshi) restaurants in UK often have veggie curries, which, unless they use ghee, should be vegan.
East Asian places (e.g. Wagamama’s) should also be quite a good bet, since they don’t often use dairy. Wagamama’s has a folder of allergy etc advice,…[Read more]
Memorize which restaurants in the area have vegan stuff so when someone wants to go out to eat you can suggest some places right off the bat. Accept that you might be eating plain salad sometimes, or just get a drink and eat beforehand, and talk a little about how you’re vegan and hopefully if your new friends are nice they’ll make sure you’re…[Read more]
I only ever eat Asian food (chinese, thai, indian, japanese). This solves everything. Or alternatively look on happycow.com or urbanspoon.com or eatability.com for veg-friendly restaurants.
Thanks for the advice everyone! I’ll definitely try to find out some good vegan spots to eat beforehand…and check out those websites, too. :)
Mediterranean food can be pretty vegetarian friendly as well. Also, a lot of college towns have a large enough vegetarian population to support a vegetarian restaurant or two, so you might look into that option as well. I did my undergrad at University of Wyoming and even they had a veggie restaurant, and that town didn’t even have a place to…[Read more]
