We Love Documentaries 12 years, 5 months agoTV documentaries anyone? I’m in the middle of watching African American Lives 2, which is the second documentary series from Henry Louis Gates, Jr. about African American genealogy and research into the family history of some notable people like Maya Angelou, Morgan Freeman, etc. I also really want to see America: The Story of Us and Brick City.
-
Oh I just looked at my instant queue: Cosmos: The Complete Collection and This American Life are some others.
-
I watch a lot of the stuff that shows up on DocZone and The Passionate Eye, on CBC
The “Great Food Revolution” Series, from a year or two ago was really interesting. Especially the “Food of the Future” episode about “Molecular Cuisine.”
Some of the docs they’ve shown that I’ve watched in the last year or so:
The “F” Word:Who wants to be a…[Read more]

Seattlestraddle 12 years, 5 months agoAnybody here going to SlutWalk Seattle? I hear the Westboro Baptist Church is gonna show up :/
-
I’m planning to go. I hadn’t heard about Westboro being there, but I wouldn’t be at all surprised.
-
Did I miss it already?? I’d LOVE to go!

Seattlestraddle 12 years, 5 months agoHey, I’m thinking about moving to Seattle after I graduate. Any tips?
-
I did that a year ago (moved here from Baltimore) — found a place on craigslist, called the one person I knew here to make sure they weren’t serial killers, and shipped myself across the country. One year later and I have managed to feed myself, keep a roof over my head, and even make friends… I’m calling it a success. I swing dance, which was…[Read more]

Well thank you for the advice, I really appreciate it. I think I would hope to live on my own. But who knows that could change. I guess I just really don’t know what to expect, being from the Midwest. :P
-
Well the weather is generally less terrifying, based on what I hear about the Midwest. People make a fuss about how rainy it is here, but fuck! You guys have tornadoes!
-
We do, I used to live in Kansas so I’m used to tornadoes. I don’t think rain would bother me. If I enjoyed London in the rain, I doubt Seattle would let me down.

Hah I’ve just done that! I got here yesterday and I graduated a week ago! It sucks so far, but that’s just cause it’s so stressful. It is super gorgeous. Especially Ballard.
I’m currently staying with a friend of my roommate’s mom. Anyone need two roommates??!!

Seattlestraddle 12 years, 5 months agoWhat neighborhoods do you all hail from/occupy? I live in Ballard, but I go to school and spend most of my time on Capitol Hill.
-
Not technically IN Seattle, unfortunately. I work in Auburn, live in Kent. I hate the suburbs.
-
I live in Greenlake right now, maybe more North College actually, and I work in Belltown with all the hobos, service workers, and sportscarpartypeople. I want to move a little further south than Greenlake, Greenlake has a lot of cute dogs but it’s kind of boring.
-
We live in Greenwood, which is actually almost as Queer as Capitol Hill. It’s just not as hipster-ish.

We Love Documentaries 12 years, 5 months ago“Jesus Camp” anyone? I would have to say it’s my favorite. It’s terrifying to see how indoctrinated those poor little kids are, but it’s pretty good.
-
“Let me say something about Harry Potter. Warlocks are enemies of god! And I don’t care what kind of hero they are, they are enemies of God! And had it been in the old testament, Harry Potter would have been put to death! You don’t make heroes out of warlocks!”
-
I loved “Jesus Camp” except that I was also simultaneously terrified. I feel like if my mom had taken just a few different turns that my life could have somehow ended up like that… *shudder*
-
scared the SHIT out of me, wow. even just the small slice of homeschooling they showed was absolutely terrifying (full disclaimer: i’m a teacher)
-
If you liked Jesus Camp you should also check out 12th & Delaware, a documentary about the abortion debate by the same people. It is about a street corner in Florida with a women’s health clinic that performs abortions on one side, and an anti-choice “crisis pregnancy center” on the other, and interviews people at both as well as their customers.
-
Whoo… I just saw these replies lol. @Dani: I, too, was terrified. I watched it with my girlfriend and she still brings it up, so I think she might be scarred for life :S
We both come from really conservative religious backgrounds.
@Erda: Thank you for the suggestion, I will have to check that one out.
