Sooooo…this group is super dead, lol. Unless groups just work in different ways than I know how to use yet? I’m new-ish so idk how any of this goes yet. But I thought I would share something anyways. When I was interning at a vet hospital last summer, I walked into a waiting room to meet a patient and found the dog sitting at the feet of his two (human) fathers. These men looked to be in about their 60’s or 70’s. They had rainbow dog collars for their pets and when we sat down in the exam room, I noticed they were wearing equality socks. One of the men brought out a local gay news publication to read while waiting for the vet to come back with the results. They called each other “honey” casually in front of the vet and the vet students without a pause. Just seeing older same-sex couples existing and being their gay selves in such a public setting really warmed my heart and made me realize that that is what I want for my life. It’s cool to realize that you can exist as a gay couple and you don’t necessarily have to “tone down” your sexuality. I can’t wait to be an old, queer woman casually being gay in public with my (hopefully in the future) wife.
