Autostraddle Summer Book Club 2011 12 years, 1 month ago so @internrachel and @julia1 when I said I’d finish ‘Sense and Sensibility’ (by Jane Austen, 272 pgs) this week I meant I would finish it today. It’s taken me awhile to finish it because I’ve been reading it as an e-book between library books and when google books stops working on my iPod. Also it’s not my favorite Jane Austen book. It wasn’t bad, I can see it’s merits, but Pride and Prejudice wins forever (Lizzy 4 life!) and it didn’t inspire Clueless so yeah. But for a first novel, that was started when Austen was 19 no less, it’s pretty good. Certainly better than anything I would do. I can’t think of much to say about it because I really wasn’t struck by it at all. Girls who like boys, boys who like girls who don’t like them back, girls being rude but not in a cool way, stuff, stuff, stuff, girls like the right boys and the right boys like them back. Marriage, marriage, marriage. The end.
And I just found out that my house guest left his copy of ‘The Second Sex’. Hello Simone de Beauvoir earlier than I expected!
