I’m currently reading a book called Backlash. It talks about the backlash against feminism in the 1980’s after the movement in the 1970’s. It’s interesting.
-
I read that as a teenager and actually threw it at my wall a few times. Not because it’s badly written or anything (it’s really not), but because I just got so freaking ANGRY about all the injustice! That’s definitely a classic.
-
Oh my god, me too. I had to take “anger breaks” and take walks around the neighborhood.
-
-
Is that the one by Susan Faludi? I haven’t read that, but I’d love to! What specifics does it deal with?
-
There’s actually just so much that it covers. Two pop culture examples it gives is Fatal Attraction. When Michael Douglas kills Glenn Close’s character theater audiences full of men would cheer “Kill the bitch!!” Also, when The Accused came out, that audiences would cheer and clap when Jodie Foster’s character is getting gang raped.

Straddle this piano bench. 12 years, 6 months agoDoes anybody here enjoy Gaga’s acoustic covers and/or earlier work, which was heavily piano?
-
her acoustic/pre famousness music is so different from the stuff she does now. i want her to jump out one day and be like FOOLED YOU and then put out an album of her singing with piano
-
I’ve wanted this to happen for a good while. You and I will be on Born This Way, but it’s a produced version that we haven’t heard before, rather than the acoustic version she plays live at concerts and appearances. I REALLLLY hope “produced” does not equal “dance-ified” because I love it how it is.
-
i will bet you 20 dollars its gonna be dancified.

I’m still holding out for Lady Gaga Swings Cole Porter.
-
she still performs her dancy songs in a kickass pianoy way sometimes. like here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0qZfvaVrBrc although then she does break into the dance bit but whatevs. also the sound mix on that recording is horrible so you can’t really hear the piano, which is a shame, because she’s a fantastic pianist.

“You & I” is one of my new favourite songs, and the “Country Roads” version of “Born This Way” kicks MAJOR tail.
