I just want to talk to the characters in books. We are already friends. Anyone else share this feeling?
-
hehe I felt that way about Anne of Green Gables…but I didn’t know I was gay then…
-
I don’t usually think they’d ‘get me’ or whatever but I feel that way about a lot of characters, actually. Some of them come and live in my head so I’m not too lonely. I don’t think that’s too weird?
-
If I could I’d live in George r. R. Martin’s universe, or Anne McCaffrey’s Pern. I just know I’d get along so well with everyone, LOL
-
I’ve always wanted to live in the Shire and smoke pipeweed with Frodo.
-
Sometimes I find myself talking to them in my head, then I realize I’m talking out loud and people are looking at me funny

My biggest problem with being shy is that I just CANNOT engage in idle conversations with people when I first meet them. I either get completely tongue-tied or I talk about obscure movie references or weird food histories. Maybe I will practice being more normal here: What do you do for a living? Where do/did you go to school? Have you seen any…[Read more]

it is easier online. i’m a librarian & i too, love obscure movie references. grew up with The Princess Bride, Monty Python & the Holy Grail, and several other oh-so-quotable movies as favorites. i love the color red. how about you, saltybox? (& all you lurkers). :)
-
It is easier online, although I do enjoy the confused look I get if I say “Have fun storming the castle” as someone leaves.
-
that is fun.

small talk is baffling, I can never figure out what to say and then it all just becomes awkward silences.
-
Yeah, me too. It’s worse when I’m at work though – why oh why do I have to have customers that need entertaining? My favourite small talk is the weather. I just make it up, of course, but that’s the fun bit hehe
-
and then the silences stretch on and on and the longer they go the harder it is to break them…yeah that sucks
-
-
I always find people like that intimidating. I love talking about the weather, but I always care too much about it. Like, I want to talk about the social and political aspects of it, and how people perceive it to shape national character, and all this other bullcrap nobody wants in their small talk.
-
I know, I always forget good things to ask until after the conversation is over.

Genderstraddlers 12 years, 6 months agoWhen I finally escaped my parental’s house I started dressing in clothes that I actually like. These clothes include ties, boxers, buttons ups, binders etc. This past week I have been searching for employment and I’ve found it is a lot different now then when I was dressing Femme. I don’t feel comfortable applying to some places because they…[Read more]

Ugh, Dany that’s really rough. Unfortunately I don’t have any advice but I just wanted to say that I’m sending you good queer vibes and I wish you luck on your job search!

Thanks!

I just recently started dressing like this as well. The only difference is briefs, but boxers are great, too. I didn’t even consider how this would affect my employment opportunities (I’m going to college in the Fall; I’m getting tons of shit for dressing like this in my small, redneck town.) I, too, will be super excited when gender identity pops…[Read more]

The boxers vs. briefs debate :) I actually wear briefs under my boxers because I’m just weird that way.
I’ve filled out so many applications I can’t remember for sure but I believe Taco Bell, McDonalds, CVS and Sears had both. There were a couple local businesses which protect against sexual orientation, which I was surprised by because I live in…[Read more]

It probably depends on the area, but you’re a lot more likely to find more queer-friendly jobs in restaurants, hotels and other service sector jobs. I worked with a lot of conservative people but they didn’t give me any crap abut how I dressed or acted–they actually liked having a more masculine female-type person in the kitchen who wasn’t afraid…[Read more]

Thanks! Also those happen to be two of my favorite words, “free” and “food”.
