Comics, Anyone? 12 years agoJust getting into comics, the only one I have read is Buffy season 8. Any recommendations on where to start?
-
Get these. They will make you a happy gay:
Gotham Central (series from 2003, now collected in four trade paperbacks. You will love Renee Montoya)
Batwoman: Elegy (required lesbian comic book reading. The trade paperback collects a series of issues from Detective Comics that feature the most awesomely lesbinoic superhero ever.)
Batwoman…[Read more]

also, HUNTRESS is getting her own little bit of a book!
-
-
Also! Strangers in Paradise (by Terry Moore), Hopeless Savages (by Jen Van Meter), Blue Monday (by Chynna Clugston…get ready to have a crush on Clover)…also French Milk (by Lucy Knisley) and Blankets (Craig Thompson).
WHOO INDIES!
Also support my company and read Hexed. It’s grand.
-
Sharks did a great job of covering the lesbo hero basics and Shannon did a great job covering a lot of the Indies (looks like I’ll be picking up Hexed!) but I’ll add a few.
The Scott Pilgrim books (Bryan Lee O’Malley) if you like indieness and movie games and slackers in Toronto, you’ll probably like this. Ramona has a Bi-curious stage that’s…[Read more]

i second the Runaways series #somuch Also, Plain Janes by Castellucci

If you want to get into mainstream Marvel comics, I highly recommend Runaways, Young Avengers, and anything from the Marvel Adventures line–they’re great introductions to the larger universe, as well as very well-written. (Well, mostly. We won’t speak of Joss’s run or some of the tragic art and writing of Civil War). If you get lost as to…[Read more]

‘Strangers in Paradise’ is an excellent place to start for both gayness and delightful characters/complex storylines.
‘Transmetropolitan’ by Warren Ellis is good if you like batshit insane. Spider Jerusalem is a gonzo journalist in the future. Technology may change, but people and politics not so much.
‘The Sandman’ by Neil Gaiman is a classic…[Read more]

I’ve tried 4 or 5 times to be a vegetarian but the most I have lasted is 7 days..any tips?
-
Watch Earthlings, it’s streaming online at earthlings.com. It always helps.
What are you slipping up with?
-
I always slip when I am in a hurry and have class for the next 4-5 hours and just need something fast.
-
Plan ahead–pack some snacks in your bag (trail mix, nuts, lara bars or other types of bars, primal strips, whatever), have ingredients for PB&J or some other easy to make meal at home, and figure out what the nearby veg options are out. You can do it!
-
Thanks for the advice! I have actually made it to 2 weeks and I don’t see myself going back to eating meat. I did accidentally eat soup that was made with chicken broth but other than that everything has been good. Definitely been eating a lot of PB and J though!

I guess my question would be why you want to be a vegetarian if it’s something you can easy break? And I don’t mean it in a judgey way. I went on and off for months at a time and until I have finally reached being pescetarian for about 3 years now. Plan ahead and think about what you can eat. In a rush is tough, but I give myself the option of…[Read more]

I think it comes down to you really wanting to do it. I tried to be a vegetarian a few times but it didn’t stick. I never ate a lot of meat so I didn’t think it would be too difficult. Then I started reading some different books about all the horrible crap in so much of our food, meat included. First I stopped eating all processed foods which cut…[Read more]

For me, it was really helpful to have friends/roommates who went vegan at the same time, slightly earlier really. We could work together in figuring out good places to eat. Maybe see if there’s some sort of vegetarian club in your area/ at your school, and if not there are tons of online communities.
I also ate a ton of convenience foods, like…[Read more]

Comics, Anyone? 12 years agoCraig Tompson’s ‘Habibi’ is… I… I’m still processing it. It’s gorgeous and heartbreaking. I’m probably going to have to read it again because there’s so much going on in that book I know I missed some things.

I thought so! I hope it’s soon. :/
