Just wanted to let you know that I got the cleaning job at the theatre. Also, my student advisor is totally on my side regarding all thesis advisor stuff. Such a good morning! (Except for the bit where I almost chopped my thumb off with a knife, and had to bind it with kitchen towels and tape to make it stop bleeding, so it looks like a gigantic…[Read more]

    • So yeah, I am a happy camper. <3

So glad things are going better for you Paloma!! I have the whole day off work and school today so I’ll probably be on.

  • Talking about self-identification. In which houses do you all see yourself ?

I just realised I am SUCH a Hufflepuff: I work hard, to compensate for not being a brilliant student by nature. I’d love being taught by professor Sprout, and my favorite thing in the world is cooking. I SO belong in that common room next to the kitchen. <3

    • I would stress the fuck out about riddles. I’d be all Neville Longbottom regarding riddles.

    • I’ve always identified as Ravenclaw. I try to analyze my decisions with logic and consider myself as more intelligent than most.

    • Yep, that is definitely me! Except that my brain has slow days where I’d be stuck outside the Ravenclaw common room talking to myself.

  • So. We’re group of the week! *yay*

For me, my academic year started with creating my Get This Shit Together-plan. A.k.a figuring out when I’ll be doing what, how long that reasonably will take and how I will earn the money to pay for that. I was very satisfied with myself. However, main problem is still concentration. How do I make my hours in…[Read more]

For me my main distractions are being cold, my cell phone, and noise, respectively. So: Bring sweater for cold library (despite that it’s like 90 out all the time wtf library), pack cell phone away (on silent) in bag (I don’t, at this moment, have quite the fortitude to turn it off), and make sure to have an ipod with music that helps me…[Read more]

A good way to keep from eating, if your library allows (or wherever you study), is bringing a huge (reusable) bottle of water. I find the zone-out munching I like to do while studying is easily replaced with unconsciously drinking lots of water, and then you keep yourself awake and moving with all the bathroom breaks. yeah.

      • Is it just me who gets so DAMN hungry while studying ? I feel like I need to eat more when I study than when I work (= physical work). Weird.

    • Contrabass! Welcome! You must become our resident cultural expert! Let us know what the best things are to do in January! It might be that we just ransack the H&M sales… but I am sure there are other things to do!

      • I don’t know about cultural… I think my only thoughts re January in Scotland are make sure to be clear to visitors that you *will* require a coat. Not just a hoody and a scarf. Coat. Essential…. plus hoody, scarf, balaclava, snow shoes, ice pick….

        • I’m beginning to think wandering Edi/Gla for funtimes might be a bit foolish. The meet should happen in Lanzarote or Florida… in Spring.

          • Well, it might happen that the dates fall on the few days in winter where Scotland is pleasant and crisp and the sun shines brightly. Alternatively, if it snows then I call for a massive snowball fight on the Meadows followed by hot drinks at the Forest Cafe. If it takes place in Edinburgh. If in Glasgow then swap locales for large park and cafe…[Read more]

            • I’m all for a snowball fight, Holland’s been snowy last two winters anyway, so no issue for us! lol

    • Ciao Cynthia! Thanks for joining! According to the cyberstalking I just undertook, you are in the USA. If so, that is AWESOME and super-international!

      • I’ll be in the UK in November so not sure if I’ll be able to come straight back in January, but will keep updated with the info here. :)

        • We could always host a preview for you in November!

          • I’ll be in London Town mostly BUT there is a slight chance I may travel up north. Will keep you posted!! :)
