Seattlestraddle 12 years, 2 months agocan we maybe do a thing that is not in a bar? like perhaps trivial pursuit instead of a pub quiz? ’cause I’m underage and they won’t let me in.

Seattlestraddle 12 years, 3 months agoIf you’re not busy with Pride events this weekend, make the trek up to Everett for two days of fast and hard-hitting roller derby. It’ll be a great time! Atlanta, Kansas City, Seattle, and Everett teams will all be there.

Seattlestraddle 12 years, 3 months agoDon’t be shy! Come find us at Hopvine. Tomorrow 6/21 @ 8pm bring $3 for your entry fee. Hint: If you want to actually sit at an actual table come early and help me hold it down!
-
Yipesorry! I misinformed you on the day. Trivia at Hopvine next Tuesday – 6/28. All the other info is true. Anyway, this should give you ample recovery time post-Pride and another chance to rehash all your favorite memories…
-
Is the hopvine/their trivia night all ages? Or might they let a properly demarcated minor in?
-
I am so there. I can rock sciencey-type questions like nobody’s business.

nothing like a late night in the lab
-
Always fun…what lab?
I just finished an online midterm, and rewarded myself with a glass of wine :9
-
Likeminded – ran a PAGE and Western blot and cracked open a beer as my reward as soon as I got home :D
-
Nice :D What’s your area of study? I only ever think of Bio and Forensics when I think of western blots [my ugrad was the latter]
Sounds bad, but I love alcohol after studying, its like pressing the ‘pause’ button on your brain :3
-
I’m in biology, plant physiology to be more precise. Not the most popular field in bio, but I love it anyway :)
How about you?-
Very nice, do you plan to do research as a career? Doesn’t matter how popular it is as long as you love it :)
I’m actually not technically in grad school just yet, I’m taking the last of my prerequisites before applying to Dietetics programs this winter. I loved Forensics during ugrad, but I really don’t think I’d be happy dealing with dead…[Read more]-
Yep I’m planning on being a scientist forever! (at least at this point in my life :D ) I am a super curious nerd and a job that involves perpetually asking questions people don’t know the answer to is perfect for me. Haha :P
Dietetics hm? Sounds interesting. I agree about the dead people thing, it’s one of the reasons I avoided med school like…[Read more]

Heh well dead people don’t creep me out, I’ve practiced on cadavers and observed autopsies (actually quite different when dealing with the ‘recently passed’) it doesn’t bother me, it just leaves me cold (no pun intended oops) I avoided med school due to the hypercompetitive, need-to-be-the-best, take-ten-years-off-your-life shenanigans they get…[Read more]

-

-
Nice! I will be tabling for 3 Dollar Bill, but I hope to get to see some of the parade before I head over to the Center.
-
I saw you today! I shouted “you do you” the first time you rode by and “au-to-stra-duuuuhhl!!” another time. I doubt you were able to hear me, though, it was so goddamn loud.
-
Shut up!!! Really?! Honestly, I didn’t consider how loud it would be. (My ears are still ringing). Apparently another friend was yelling at me too – didn’t hear her either! That’s awesome though!! Glad you picked me out! So much fun riding! :-)

smarty pants people, I have to have 100 books for a bibliography for grad school. I need all the books I can get. Do you have any LQBT suggestions. I need books like Lacan’s female sexuality. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
-
Go through the Norton Anthology of Literary Theory and Criticism, there is a whole section of work like that. Also, you can check out: http://litguide.press.jhu.edu/
Off the top of my head:
Judith Butler, Bodies That Matter
Sandra Gilbert, The Mad Woman in the Attic
Eve Kosofsky Sedgwick, Epistemology of the Closet
Michel Foucault -
thanks!

This is a little late, but if you still need it, try looking through Duke University Press’s Series Q. Lots of interesting books.
