Hey all,
I’m passing through London in June 15-18 on holiday. I’m 20 from Sydney Australia and I was hoping to go out clubbing during this time. So I was hoping if I could get some advice/possibly make some friends…I’m hoping to maybe move to London in 2012 so I really wanted to check out the scene whilst I’m there. I’m thinking of going out…[Read more]

Hey Cindy!
Afraid I’m not living in London at the moment, but lived there for 20 years so have plenty of advice :) Check out http://boards.gingerbeer.co.uk/ for what’s going on, there are plenty of meet ups and events which you could go to. G-A-Y and Candy Bar are both in SOHO right in the centre of London (and about a 5 minute walk from each…[Read more]

thanks so much! I’m going to be on my own it looks like but I think I might check out Candy Bar. Ta.xx

Hi! I totally forgot but I friended you as I should be around then to go out one night if you like. I’m 19 and relatively new to London, so still looking for more queer friends to go out with :) Not very knowledgeable about places as I’ve only ever been to Ku, G-A-Y and The Den, so perhaps I could check out Candy Bar with you? From all I’ve heard…[Read more]

BEST advice given above is to go East! To me it’s much more chilled an atmosphere, and it feels more like real London.
In Soho though, Ku bar gets my vote.-
I seem to hear this a lot, but where do you actually advise to go to? From what I can tell on the internet Ghetto seems to be closed and Dick and Fanny doesn’t happen very often .. and I can’t figure out if Trash Palace is the same as Ghetto. All the websites seem to be very out of date
-
there’s twat boutique and unskinny bop which you definitely need to check out. i’d also advise just going on a general bar crawl, basically it’ quite difficult to go wrong :)

Autostraddle Musicians 12 years, 4 months agoAny other composers here? What sorts of things are you working on right now? I’m almost finished with a piece for voice, and I really love it. I’m starting to think that maybe vocal writing is my “thing” and I should focus on that more from now on.
-
i arranged an accompanied brahms lied for piano solo, does that count?
by the way what notation program(s) do you use, do you have any recommendations? i use musescore and it’s quite fiddly, i guess nothing compares to the ease of pencil and eraser.-
I’d recommend Sibelius, its not perfect but it can do almost anything; and its pretty intuitive so it doesn’t take too long to learn.
BUT its suuuper expensive so you’d need to download it or get a cracked copy, unless you’re rich-
nah, dude. I’m all about finale. But really, it’s not that different from sibelius. They’re both great software choices. I’ve been using finale for a couple of years now, and it’s been pretty great.
-
One of my fellow comp majors said that Sibelius vs. Finale is like Mac vs. PC for composers, and I think he’s right. Anyway, I’m on Team Sibelius – I find it less confusing to use and I like the look of the scores better.

Doctor Whovians 12 years, 4 months agoSo I just finished watching ep 6 The Almost People and no spoilers, but the ending was the most personally terrifying I can remember. I have nightmares where that kinda thing happens to me. How long until we can discuss things?
-
It doesn’t air in the US and Canada until next week. Usually we wait a week to discuss episodes, so I would guess next week, but I don’t care if you discuss it before then I’ll to avoid the thread to avoid spoilers
-
You sure? I torrent like mad, but I could swear BBC America was simulcasting a second showing to synch with the Brit next-day re-airing?
-
BBC America was airing them the same week as the BBC, but because last weekend was Memorial Day weekend BBC America had a marathon rather than show the new episode so the US is a week behind now (we got ‘the almost people’ yesterday and not ‘a good man goes to war’), maybe they’ll resync up at some point.

Doctor Whovians 12 years, 4 months agoI just watched a couple of Old Skool Who stories back to back and they were good, but I’m so sad right now. I watched “The Time Monster” (which featured a lot of The Brig) and “Seeds of Doom” (which featured a lot of Sarah Jane Smith). I’m still having a hard time believing we lost Nicholas Courtney and Lis Sladen back to back like that. So…[Read more]
