a sport i wish i could understand but never can = cricket.

I love curling, I want to play it so badly and get obsessed with it every four years during the olympics when it’s actually on tv. I think once several years ago, I understood cricket for about five minutes.

I currently live in Baltimore, but I am a Detroit native so I’m joining this group, if that’s okay with everyone. And I split the difference by keeping my fridge well-stocked with both Natty Boh and Vernors.

Hufflepuff, know what’s up! I would totally room with you in Hufflepuff. My mom even made me a black and yellow striped scarf. I am always on the lookout for Hufflepuff merchandise, but everything is either Gryffindor or Slythering. There is no love for Hufflepuffs, and it makes me sad.

Does anyone know if there is a Grand Rapids Pride happening in June? The website says that it is on June 18th but nothing else, no events or times. I pinning my hopes on the MI gaymo phone tree!

There is a Pride picnic on June 18th, it’s at Riverside Park just like last year. Last year there was a drag show and I dunno, some other entertainment. No parade or anything.

Do you think it’s worth going to? There’s no Pride anything happening up here and I want to take some young’ns from my LGBTQ group down there to experience it. I guess I’m asking what the vibe is, would young people enjoy it?

I don’t know, honestly last year it was pretty disappointing. There wasn’t much to do except drink and walk around and look at the vendors selling cheesy rainboware. The evenings get more fun with events at the gay bar and club but you couldn’t take young people there.

:( I hope this year is different. I’ve been in touch with the dudes putting it together and it looks like they have a decent line-up of queer musicians (have you heard of Nervous but Excited?) as well as drag shows. Thanks for the input, here’s hoping for a slightly less liquor-soaked WMI Pride this year!

I’ve never heard of Nervous but Excited, but that’s pretty much my life summed up in one phrase, so I’ll have to check them out.
Part of the problem is that last year I was newly out and self-conscious and didn’t know many people so maybe that’s why I didn’t like it so much.-

YES, Colin Creevey seemed a bit queerish. Also, I had this funny feeling about Professor McGonagall, probably because it is a hop, skip, and a jump from tartan to plain shirt-ed lesbianism.

I always thought Tonks was, and was so disappointed when Rowling wrote her a romance with Lupin.

I’m with you on this, although I still feel that Tonks and Lupin both probably identify as queer. I have no scientific or magical evidence with which to back this idea up, it’s just a feeling I have about them.

Agreed. Both Tonks and Lupin seemed queer to me. And it’s really terrible how they ended up :(

Right?! All my friends think I’m weird for thinking that Sirius and Remus were so into each other. I know I’m not alone in this (the fanfictions, they are numerous) but it gets lonely without real life friends to believe in their queerness with me.

how did you do it? I mean the only thing really holding me back right now is my fear of being unemployed/failing/having to move back in with my mother (yikes) and it’s a big cliff to jump off

well, i kind of got lucky. my friend and her new wife moved to L.A. and need someone to rent her condo. i really didn’t want to move to chicago so soon but i couldn’t pass up the deal. i still work and go to school in dekalb, well until i don’t have to anymore.
