Not Straight After All, Hey-O! 8 years, 9 months ago Hi all! I am a 27 year old bisexual cis-woman. I’m married to a straight cis-man. I came out to my husband a few weeks ago, but I’m not out to anyone else yet. He is really supportive and agreed to open our relationship so I can date women and explore this aspect more. So far all my dates have been pretty lackluster though, so I’m feeling a bit isolated. I’m glad to have found Autostraddle and this group!
If anyone has any advice on coming out to my parents after a lifetime of dating men and now being married, I’d love to hear it. I’ll have to explain our open marriage too, so I’m stressed!
Hey welcome to AS! I used to have a serious boyfriend, and I came out after we broke up so my situation is a little different. But if you want to come out to parents, the best thing to do is use clear terminology. I was coming out to mine in a different language so I said “I date men and women”, which apparently was interpreted as “I have a boyfriend and a girlfriend”. Oops!
Also if you feel comfortable bringing your husband along with you when you talk to your parents, it might ease the tension. Good luck yo!
