The Great Library of Autostraddle 8 years, 9 months agoDoes anyone have any suggestions for books by or about non-binary people, where they aren’t non-binary because they’re aliens or shapeshifters or magic or something? I’m trying not to read books by and about men this year, and I’ve got the women bit covered (except in sci fi!!) but not nb people. I’m nb myself so it’s quite annoying!

So I’m replying to this six months on, but… have you read The Left Hand of Darkness, by Ursula LeGuin? It won the Nebula Hugo back in 1970. Or ‘Orlando’ by Virginia Woolf, its about a charater who “changes sex from man to woman and lives for centuries”… oh I guess that sounds kind of sci-fi now I spell it out.
Has anyone read it? I tried she’s a very hard writer and I need more time…).

Oh, I think I tried to watch a movie version of this once! Starring Tilda Swinton. I say “tried” because I had no idea what it was about and had trouble following it; I think I turned it off partway through.
Now that I know it’s a book maybe I’ll try again (with the book). I’ve never read any Virginia Woolf.
