Lesbrarians 12 years, 5 months agofrom the kslis-listserv, reposted w/o permission (on my own initiative, bc i think it’s important. In regards to conservative members ofour listerv – i will alert the author & remove this post if requested): “It’s unfortunate for the collections you may be maintaining in the future that you think that “fairness” and “balance” mean never…[Read more]

We had a token Republic Roman Catholic dad in one of my classes, and he pulled a lot of BUT WHAT ABOUT US and my classmates gentle reminded him that it wasn’t all about him, and that tailoring curriculum and classroom libraries to every parents’ set of morals was a slippery slope to accepting the parents who think interracial marriage is immoral….

that’s what i love about working in the public library. it’s not always comfortable, but we serve the entire community. there’s something extremely democratic & patriotic about that, i feel. there are lines that won’t be crossed, however, like the infamous ”flat earth” conundrum from my slis class, birther literature, and eugenics materials t…[Read more]

if you get super distracted and need your writing app to help you not be quite so distracted, you owe it to yourself to check out ommwriter: http://www.ommwriter.com/
at least watch the video, it’s mesmerizing
-
I find that program extremely distracting!
-
god, i love it. the little noises distract me, but they distract me into what i’m trying to do, instead of away to the internet or whatever. useful distraction! if that makes sense.

I love distraction-free apps with keyboard sounds! Honestly it’s what’s missing from Scrivener. I could see writing the first drafts of scenes with this and then bringing them into scrivener for edits. Hm…

The Great Library of Autostraddle 12 years, 5 months agoI just finished reading the short story “I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream” by Harlan Ellison. I very much enjoyed it and you might too! Just as a warning, I’d heard it was incredibly unsettling, but I wasn’t really bothered until the last few paragraphs, at which point I kind of freaked. Still totally worth it though.

The Great Library of Autostraddle 12 years, 5 months agoMay I just say: “Sometimes She Let’s Me”, the anthology in the NSFW post this week. DOES NOT SUCK ASS, except in the literal sense… As a general rule people act like writing erotica means you can just be ridiculous and sloppy, but this ones pretty good so far. Mind you I’m not THAT far in…

8 Members already! :D This is what I get for going away for the weekend…so when did everyone discover what synesthesia actually is? I only found out a few years ago that the condition exists that there is a “name for what I can do”, etc. Others?
-
Your group made me find out.
-
I’m so glad! :) How does it feel now, knowing that you are not the only one – in fact, far from it? I was euphoric for weeks after I discovered it.
-
So so so ecstatic that the fact that I think numbers have personalities is not just a strange quirk I have. It’s a thing! An awesome thing, and one that makes me unique (and lets me join awesome groups on AS. I feel like I’ve overused the word “awesome” here but hey, it is.)
-
There is no way to overuse the word “awesome”. ;)

I have grapheme-color, sound-color, and number form. And when people talk I see text along with it. Basically, all my senses are tied to my sight to some degree.
