Though the national organization says it isn’t the first to openly invite transgender youth, the new group is drawing attention in conservative Utah where lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender groups have long struggled to find acceptance and were only recently given anti-discrimination protections.

+ Amazing. Get Ready to Flip Out Over This Groundbreaking LSU Gymnast, Lloimincia Hall.

Aside from flipping the sport on its head, Hall also proves that gymnasts don’t have to fit any mold in order to be successful. “A traditional gymnast is very skinny, much more of a graceful aspect,” she told CBS. “I’m not the typical thing, so what? Let’s have some fun.”

+ Why Aren’t Women Having Children? File this under Things I Can’t Read Because.

Maybe the world would be a better place if fewer women weren’t compelled to have children while their resources are stretched unreasonably thin. Maybe fewer sweet, chubby-cheeked toddlers would grow up to be surly, resentful adults because they always had the lingering sense their presence wasn’t wanted. Many of the writers in Shallow, Selfish, and Self-Absorbed discuss their own traumatic childhoods, and how they were made to feel responsible for their parents’ failed careers, or failed relationships, or unhappy lives. But there should be no shame attached to the decision not to participate any further in the great human experiment, whether or not it comes from the fact that that experiment has failed a person in the past.

+ Why Do Your Friends’ Clothes Always Seem More Interesting Than Your Own?

“I like how tense clothing swaps are,” said Dana Balch, who brought a polka-dotted dress and left with an embroidered blouse. “It’s odd having people know that you’re wearing something that they no longer like, but it’s exciting to see how an article of clothing changes on a different person who has their own unique style, personality, and perspective. To me, that’s what style is all about.”

  1. This weekend my conservative uncle gave me a nice little objective rundown of the history of 4-20, including the use of some in-the-know terminology, leading me to believe I maybe don’t know my uncle as well as I thought I did…

  2. I would also like to mention that Gillian Anderson’s book is available in audiobook form read by Gillian herself…. Soooo… You can basically have 9 hours of Gillian reading you a bedtime story for reals.

… And the story is decent too.
