Also.Also.Also: Willie Nelson Made This Playlist for You and Other Stories You’ll Love

Hello bright energies! Happy first day of your week! I hope it’s a great one.

You Should Go or Do or Give

+ The Ladybeard Fundraiser is happening Friday April 24, and you should probably go!

Queer as in F*ck You

+ Queers to the Front! Bent Fest and the Queer DIY Punk Scene.

+ Three Women Speak: What It’s Like to Be Queer in Tech.

+ Dinner With the Power Lesbian Attorneys in New York City. Dreams and life goals.

+ Transgender Kids and LGBT Families Welcome in New Girl Scout Troop

Though the national organization says it isn’t the first to openly invite transgender youth, the new group is drawing attention in conservative Utah where lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender groups have long struggled to find acceptance and were only recently given anti-discrimination protections.

Doll Parts

+ Amazing. Get Ready to Flip Out Over This Groundbreaking LSU Gymnast, Lloimincia Hall.

Aside from flipping the sport on its head, Hall also proves that gymnasts don’t have to fit any mold in order to be successful. “A traditional gymnast is very skinny, much more of a graceful aspect,” she told CBS. “I’m not the typical thing, so what? Let’s have some fun.”

+ Why Aren’t Women Having Children? File this under Things I Can’t Read Because.

Maybe the world would be a better place if fewer women weren’t compelled to have children while their resources are stretched unreasonably thin. Maybe fewer sweet, chubby-cheeked toddlers would grow up to be surly, resentful adults because they always had the lingering sense their presence wasn’t wanted. Many of the writers in Shallow, Selfish, and Self-Absorbed discuss their own traumatic childhoods, and how they were made to feel responsible for their parents’ failed careers, or failed relationships, or unhappy lives. But there should be no shame attached to the decision not to participate any further in the great human experiment, whether or not it comes from the fact that that experiment has failed a person in the past.

+ Speaking of, though! Popaganda Episode: How to Talk to Kids About Pop Culture. “How can a queer family raise radical kids in the suburbs? One mom shares her story on our podcast.”

+ Four Things We Can Do to Make Feminist Organizing More Inclusive and Empowering for All of Us by your fave and mine, Carmen Rios.

+ This is weird but I think you’ll like it, because Stef and Rachel liked it, and that is the litmus test. Bedtime Stories: Gillian Anderson.

I once watched an episode of a cooking competition that included Nigella Lawson dressed in pajamas and lounging in a hotel bed and it was just as magical/uncomfortable as this clip was, so.

Saw This, Thought of You

+ It’s National Park Week! If you can’t make it to a park, Lauren Katz has compiled a solid list of livestreams and webcams from various national parks throughout America. TREES AND THE SKY!! MUD! ROCKS! Animals animals animals YOU ARE AN ANIMAL xoxox let’s go outside!

+ Why Do Your Friends’ Clothes Always Seem More Interesting Than Your Own?

“I like how tense clothing swaps are,” said Dana Balch, who brought a polka-dotted dress and left with an embroidered blouse. “It’s odd having people know that you’re wearing something that they no longer like, but it’s exciting to see how an article of clothing changes on a different person who has their own unique style, personality, and perspective. To me, that’s what style is all about.”

  1. This weekend my conservative uncle gave me a nice little objective rundown of the history of 4-20, including the use of some in-the-know terminology, leading me to believe I maybe don’t know my uncle as well as I thought I did…

  2. I would also like to mention that Gillian Anderson’s book is available in audiobook form read by Gillian herself…. Soooo… You can basically have 9 hours of Gillian reading you a bedtime story for reals.

… And the story is decent too.
