What will you do with this hunk of sunlight today? You could sprout a seed, if you wanted. I mean, you could begin sprouting a seed. You could run around in it (the sunlight, not the seed) or stand very still. You could even hide from it! You can do whatever you want with your chunky bursting sunlight today! Congratulations!

Voting to get Harper the f*ck out of power, thanks for asking.
Go tiny powerful vote-seed, go!
Wyatt Scott for Parliament!
PS – I’m an American, and I have absolutely no idea about any of the candidates. I just thought that this was uncompromisingly rad.
best of luck out there!

We need a Canadian election feelings open thread.
Yes!!! It’s like the Women’s World Cup, except for higher stakes and with much less attractive players.
@chandra
Which riding are you in?
We’re in East Vancouver; we live opposite a polling station, and I feel fairly confident Jenny Kwan (NDP) is going to win, although I’ve seen a lot of Wes Regan (Green) signs too.
@snaelle I’m in North Okanagan-Shuswap, which I’m disappointed to see has gone to the Conservatives again even though polls were showing the NDP slightly ahead.
I’m glad to see we’ve managed to heave Steve, but a Liberal majority is not what I wanted either. A minority/NDP coalition would have been much better. Then there’s more incentive for them to work together and change our fucked-up electoral system.
@chandra
I agree! It’s disappointing to see so many NDP seats lost, but I’m not that surprised. I think so many voters just wanted to really make sure that Harper would be gone.
I used to think proportional representation was the way to go, but I’m not so sure now. It seems as though it encourages extremism and single-issue platforms (in any direction), rather than considering the whole of society.
I guess there’s no perfect systems, but I hope this next government at least fixes the worst election issues.
In the meantime, I’m going to wish you luck with your representative, and feel grateful that our riding is so progressive that there were real journalistic enquiries as to whether the conservative candidate for Vancouver East actually exists.
“The Plan to Make California Wet By Bringing Back Beavers”
Um. Apparently I’m a twelve year-old boy. Because that headline made me giggle.
Yeah I admit I was a little disappointed when I clicked on it and realized the article was entirely serious, and not a cleverly worded essay on how queer women are the cure to all life’s problems
I wonder how often wildlife biologists who study beavers catch their double-entendres and crack themselves up

Whoa. You weren’t kidding about the pet article – it’s a good thing I read it at home, because I totally cried. And now I have to go cuddle my cats.
So…the “Gilmore Girls” are coming back.

But are they gonna mess it up? Because their revival of Arrested Development was hardly watchable IMO.

I cannot express how carbonated fruit will improve my life.
I probably can after the SCIENCE! experiment to make it later this week. Once I find someone silly enough to sell me dry ice.
Dry ice is so much fun. It has provided many hours of entertainment in the lab while waiting for my reactions or distillations to finish. Liquid nitrogen is fun too! You can make ice cream with it!
