Also.Also.Also: At This Rate, The Only LGBTQ Bookstores Left Will Be the Boxes of Shit Your Exes Never Picked Up

Hello I have come into this week with all my cylinders firing or whatever they say that doesn’t involve guns being ablaze, and I hope you have, too! Even though my dryer is broken! Even though the new mattress I finally broke down and bought IS FAR TOO FUCKING SOFT and slowly tries to swallow me each night. EVEN THOUGH EVERYTHING HARD AND STUPID AND AWFUL, I’m high-fiving this week like I haven’t seen it all summer.

Let’s get some links!

  1. The San Antonio Four story has captivated me for about 6 years now. Texas having to pay them each 1.2 million dollars, still doesn’t make up for them losing 15 years of their lives for something they didn’t do. Just one more example of how our “justice” system fails poor people.

  2. As much as I love the movie Clueless I’m not sure how I feel about it being turned into a musical, I mean yeah Mean Girls is a musical but it just doesn’t feel right. That being said the movie is one of my favorite movies ever, it’s smart and funny and still holds up.

  3. Letter People! They were up on the wall in my kindergarten classroom! I think I was Miss U and carried an umbrella when we had a day to dress like Letter People. My sister went as Super Socks with giant blue socks with some red stripes when she was in kindergarten.

  4. Jaime Harker, the author of The Lesbian South, was an amazing professor at the University of Mississippi and I loved taking her class, Queer Southern Lit. I just bought her book and I am super excited to read it!

  5. Apropos of the link to podcast pick-me-up suggestions: a friend recently recommended the She’s All Fat podcast to me, and I *love* it! Their tag-line is “a podcast for body positivity, radical self-love, and chill vibes only,” which sums it up pretty well. The hosts, Sophie and April, are so warm, smart, and funny. Their approach is very intersectional, talking about issues pertaining to fatness and body positivity along with gender identity, sexuality, race, class, etc. They also talk a lot about pop culture, which is fun. I feel like I’m not doing a great job of describing it, but this podcast has seriously been a ray of sunshine in what has been a pretty bleak winter for me so far, so I highly recommend it.

  6. All the historical “evidence” of Queen Elizabeth’s obsession with lead powder and aging reminds me of all the “evidence” of Marie Antionette’s lasciviousness/lesbianism. I mean, have you seen the political cartoons produced by MA’s haters? Serious pornography that for years has been taken as proof that she effed everything and anything that moved. I’m not saying that she wasn’t into women, but anti-monarchy propaganda should be read with the proverbial grain of salt, especially when directed against powerful women.

    Great article, BTW.
