  1. Laneia, I’m totally supporting the NWSL and the USWNT’s fight for equality and fair wages, and I know that Hope Solo is at the forefront of this fight and is doing really great work on their behalf. But I think any link to her website should be accompanied by an acknowledgement that she has been charged with domestic violence, and that she’s actually kind of a terrible role model to be the leading the charge on these issues.

    • I am with ya, Allison. Glad these things are discussed- especially for the many players who are more personally impacted than Solo but can’t get the same visibility for the problems.

But I am also very tired of seeing anything about Hope Solo. I hate that she has domestic violence charges against her and is repping us in Rio. Even IF you were a USSF official who cared more about winning than anything else, we even have 2 other goalies who are world class. Just UGGH

  2. I’m concerned about the choice to give Hope Solo, a domestic abuser, a platform. The issue of the treatment of the USWNT is hugely important and no person should be wholly defined by one event, but she has been called out as an abuser by her sister and has done nothing to show any accountability for it.

  3. Natasha Kai!!! I really appreciate her being so open about her struggles and it has been pure joy seeing her play this season. And her friendship with Captain America and her daughter as documented on instagram is flippin’ adorable.

Related: Jill Loyden is coming out of retirement! I can’t wait to see the three of them on the pitch together.

    • There has been some pretty good criticism of the lack of diversity and how it is the result of a system where you can only really get to the top if you can afford to play to pay in competitive youth leagues, attend camps etc. Hopefully these critiques will continue being voiced and start causing some change.

What makes you think Ellis specifically is racist though?

  4. So apparently the faux coup perpetrated by Erdogen in Turkey to repress the Turks isn’t reported here. Kind of a big deal also to Americans considering that US nukes are stored there and Turkey is a major conduit to W. Europe. But stay uninformed in your fantasy world while things escalate.
