  1. I feel like that city score the HRC gives is a bit inaccurate as it doesn’t factor gender or the person is white passing or not. I checked a few cities in my area of California, and two of them got 100 out of a 100, which I know is totally not true. In one city I was kicked out a gay bar for using the bathroom while being trans(West Hollywood), and another city two of the lgbtq bars and restaurants either need to do better to combat racism and/or sexism in the community(LBC).

  2. Laneia, thank you for including the link to the fish farm occupation article. This is taking place where I live so it’s very close to my heart and it’s so important for people to know that it’s going on. My work is related to wild salmon and eco-tourism, and no wild salmon means no grizzly bears or black bears or killer whales or sea lions…it goes on and on. This year we saw grizzlies staying in estuaries long past the time when they should have been moving upriver to follow the spawning salmon. We waited and waited for the fish to show up and they didn’t, at least not nearly the numbers needed to sustain our wildlife and our coast and the people who rely on them. These brave humans have been out there for two months in the cold and rain trying to get their voices heard. Also, something the article doesn’t mention is the majority of the occupiers are young women (and as far as I know, at least a couple of queer women). “Swanson Occupation” on FB

  3. the fact that the HRC gave Denver a 100, which is increasingly becoming a harder and harder place to live in for anyone not ciswhite and wealthy AND a perfect score to law enforcement that murdered queer Latnix teen Jessie Hernandez WITH IMPUNITY tells me that these ratings are a ridiculous joke and the HRC should read up on what intersectionality actually means. who cares if gay people are on city council if they are selling it all to gentrifiers?
