  1. Just like, a lot that I’m mad about in the news and these links. Healthcare discrimination? What, like our healthcare situation in the US isn’t bad enough? smh!

But coming from a bad thing (that transphobic AfterEllen article), the conversation between Molly, Daniel, Charlie, and Grace was wonderful to read. Molly’s last line really resonates, “Our taxonomy as LGBTQ+ humans is dynamic and expanding, and more people are filtering to more specific identities” <3

  2. … suddenly tempted to contact local hospitals/clinics and ask them for lists of the medical professionals in their employ who have stated objections to care of any type… then compile them into nice spreadsheets for extremely public release.

Then again, this rule will be almost certainly be blocked by litigation before it takes effect, so it may not even reach the point where that information would be created.

    • In what world do people’s beliefs matter more than lives? This is horrifying. Anyone who wants to deny medical care should never be a healthcare professional.

      Semenya’s ruling is also horrifying.

The Burch conversation was a good antidote to that.

  3. The healthcare discrimination thing makes me extra glad I live in an area where so many healthcare workers are queer. But I also know that the homophobe who was my daughter’s second (but not her last) pediatrician is dancing with glee.

When my butch-loving wife and I first laid eyes on Shane back in the 00s, I think we might have simultaneously shouted “She’s no butch!” at the television. Thanks for the link to that lovely conversation. Molly Priddy is amazing.

    • Yep! I said it to Grace on Twitter, and I’ll say it here – andro with some masc features/behaviours does not mean butch! And it’s not because Shane could be conventionally attractive. She had swagger, but it wasn’t butch.

I mean, I’m not masc, but I am butch. But there are plenty of butch women who are all or somewhat masc too. And of course there are lots of transguys who are perfectly masculine and who were never butch and aren’t butch men after transitioning, although there are some who are! And some transwomen are butch although they weren’t butch men pre-transition!

Anyways, concur re Shane and the awesomeness of Molly Priddy.

  4. Anyone looking at colleges and worried about running into asshole healthcare workers who refuse to treat you, check out the University of California Student Healthcare Insurance Plan (just google “uship”) to see what each campus offers LGBTQI students.

  5. Reading the queer baking piece while anxiously planning an ambitious mother’s day cake was far too close to home, in a way that can only ever be funny.

Im hoping one day I’ll learn to be okay with bringing something simple and comforting, but for now I have a gluten free and vegan ferrero rocher cake to bake…
