Yesterday, led by Golden Ball and Boot winner Megan Rapinoe, the United States earned their fourth star, defeating the Netherlands in the World Cup finals. It capped an incredible month of soccer and I’ve been thrilled to offer these cupdates as part of AAA…thanks to Laneia for indulging me. One more for the road, eh?

But also? Say we #WontStopWatching:

Your Cupdates were incredible, @pecola
Thank you for this. Highlights of the AAA surely
I LOVED Drop Dead Gorgeous. It was DEFINITELY a movie that my friends and I watched again and again as young tweens trying to figure out the world. It’s hard to share my love for the subversiveness of that movie (subversive in the way it was actually honest about the ugliness and cruelty that undergirds the way women are forced / rewarded for performing femininity in a particular way; subversive in the way it shows the ridiculousness of what it looks like to perform piousness) because some of it is also so incredibly problematic (an entire character created to be a running joke making fun of neuroatypical people) and so I’m glad this article exists!
yes! Love drop dead gorgeous SO MUCH. Minnesota represent!!!
I will miss the cupdates! That first article is so great/important. I’d read rumors about Kelley O’Hara being queer so it’s nice to have it confirmed! (Now we just need Tobin…)
Thanks for posting the Shirley Chisholm story link! I’ve been kinda obsessed with her since watching the “Chisholm ’72: Unbought & Unbossed” documentary. If anyone reading this has not yet seen it…please do so posthaste. Thank you.
Love you guys, but in the article description, “lesbians marching in solidarity with trans women in London” could probably use “cis” added at the start.
You can currently watch the NWSL on Yahoo Sports! and starting next weekend, games will be aired on ESPNews, the playoffs and final will air on ESPN 2. Find the schedule at nwsl.com and/or download the NWSL app for smartphones.
In addition to the USWNT you can catch lesbian/queer players such as: Rachel Daly (England NT) with the Houston Dash (and her girlfriend Kristie Mewis); Sam Kerr (Australia NT) with the Chicago Red Stars (and her girlfriend Nikki Stanton); Marta (greatest player in the world and Brazil NT) with the Orlando Pride (and her girlfriend Toni Pressley); Abby Erceg (New Zealand NT) with the North Carolina Courage (and her girlfriend Kristen Hamilton) and so many more gay players!
