Also.Also.Also: Do We Still Need Queer Media? Yes Next Question

Friends, will we make it to the post office today? It’s raining, keep that in mind. Also it’s a workday, so there are several other non-postal things that must take place. And yet the post office is truly where we need to end up at some point on this very day. Will we? Will we find ourselves there at last? And if we do, will we have remembered to bring that which we intended to mail? So many moving parts.

  1. For some reason I mentally read the Babysitters club headline as a rhetorical question with a Chandler Bing style inflection on the word been, and was expecting a completely different article about Kirsty being queer coded or something. Which is stupid because Babysitters club could definitely have been more gay and also because Chandler Bing is really annoying and I don’t want to hear anything in his voice.

  2. I loved that BSC article (even if I also read the headline in a Chandler way). I wonder if the graphic novel adaptations will go there with it?

Did anyone read the new graphic adaptation of Little Women where Jo is gay? It has everything I ever wanted from Little Women except it’s terrible! My point is, sometimes a lack of gay representation is better.

  3. Thanks for that Babysitters Club article, I remember The California Diaries but I guess I was never into those, or maybe I just didn’t care about Dawn. This article also makes me want to go back and re-read all the books I read as a child/teen and see if I missed any wlw subtext.

  4. wow I had the sense Monica Roberts was a force but was clueless on the full extent of her amazingness. great article.

also um if anyone is interested in a queer babysitters club i made a short film. it’s still being submitted to festivals so not online yet, but follow the insta for updates @thegaybysittersclub

  5. I finally listened to Reise in the Outward “Queer Media” episode.

    So many thoughts.
    RB- You were great.
    But IMHO, underutilized.
You would have been such an excellent addition to that conversational free for all at the beginning of the show, shooting from the hip about Queer Media—
(So many thoughts, but I’ll hold them in.)
Mainly I wanted to say that I think you and your team have a really great grasp of what the community needs from queer media, what it provides as an in-group resource, conversation and exploration of any topic, not just current events.

That’s why your readers are so loyal and love you.

I hope you are able to keep AS going for a very longtime and I’m sorry to hear that u r so tired.
