Good morning and hello! I hadn’t read Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe until recently, and I finished it over the weekend and let me tell you what, never again! That book broke me in half and made me start my period four days early. If you have a great lesbian/lesbian-adjacent that won’t end with me sobbing on the bedroom floor, please do share!

Did you know we have a newsletter — The Autostraddle Weekly — that rounds up and curates your Autostraddle experience every Friday at 11am pacific? It’s true! 1. I’m impressed (maybe, sadly, more impressed because the creator’s a guy) by the thoughtfulness of the team behind Bojack Horseman. Beyond the careful treatment of asexuality, mental illness, and rape culture, another interesting article this year has Bob-Waksberg discussing his guilt over his original decision to cast Alison Brie as an Asian character, and the subsequent attempts at course-correction. Not to be like “have a cookie for basic shit!” but at this point it seems kind of amazing when a privileged storyteller actually looks at their own behavior critically and makes changes instead of doubling down on why the behavior couldn’t have been racist. And the actors of color on the show lately have been top notch– Issa Rae, Raul Esparza, Kimiko Glenn, Stephanie Beatriz, Aparna Nancherla, and omg Hong Chau as “Pickles” XD
