Adam Lambert Kills It With Queen at VMAs, Fun Home To Be a Musical

ADAM LAMBERT:

Adam Lambert was unfortunately missing in action at our own VMAs in LA this year but he somehow showed up at the MTV European VMAs in Belfast, Ireland of all places. Get ready for eight minutes of Adam in black leather as he joins Queen on stage for a medley of the classics, “Show Must Go On,” “We Will Rock You,” and “We Are the Champions.”

Finally, an update via Twitter regarding the delay of the first single off his upcoming musical masterpiece:

RICKY MARTIN:

What a long way we have come from some serious sexuality denial to now being granted Spanish citizenship so he can take advantage of their gay marriage law and marry his boyfriend! Ricky is currently raising his twin three-year-old sons with his partner Carlos Gonzalez Abella. He spoke about the possibility of getting married when he appeared on Larry King last year:

“Yes, we could go to Spain and get married. We can go to Argentina and get married. But why do we have to go somewhere else? Why can’t I do it in my country where the laws are – you know, protecting me? I can go to Spain. I have many friends in Spain. And get married. And make it very beautiful and symbolic. But… I [can’t] do it in the backyard of my house. I want to have that option. I don’t want to be a second class citizen anymore. I pay my taxes. Why can’t I have that right?”

QUEEN LATIFAH:

Add one more homo to the list of daytime talk show hosts. She is partnering with Will Smith’s Overbrook Entertainment to create her own syndicated talk show, but she’ll sit out the current round of competitive development with the hopes of launching in fall 2013.

FUN HOME:

Lisa Kron and composer Jeanine Tesori are adapting Dykes to Watch Out For creator/cartoonistAlison Bechdel’s phenomenal graphic novel Fun Home (coincidentally chosen as Autostraddle’s Book Club #4!) to a stage musical via the Sundance Institute Theater Program! As a taste for what you’re in for, I’ll leave you with an excerpt from the original source material which focuses on Alison’s relationship with her father and coming to terms with the fact that she’s gay:

“My father and I grew up in the same small Pennsylvania town and he was gay and I was gay and he killed himself and I became a lesbian cartoonist.”

  1. I don’t care about anything that happened at that boring-ass awards show other than BIG BANG’S WIN!!! History right thurr.
Sorry, I just had to spazz a bit:)

    • I know, I can’t wait to find out more. At first I was really nervous because that seems weird, but if Lisa Kron and Jeanine Tesori are taking it on, I don’t think we have much to worry about. It’ll be phenomenal. I just can’t decide who I want to be in it.

  2. OMG! Lambert was the BIG TALK of that show! He was AWESOME in any way! The guy has unbelievable voice, stage presence, guts, looks clean……..Man, you have a great future!

  3. Dayum Adam just tore that stage up, amazing. And awww Brian May looked like he was having so much fun with Adam on that catwalk. Great performance by everyone.

  4. Jess nice of you to put up a video but please change it. I was reading comments on YT page on this video and all are from foreign people who don’t know Adam and they are ripping him apart. Please pick another video to post on this site. Thanks

  5. I really can’t envision Fun Home as a musical. I love that graphic novel, it’s an awesome memoir and piece of literature, but I just can’t picture folks singing and performing it. I’m curious to see how they do it.

    • I agree, hard to think of Fun Home as a musical! It will be really interesting to see what they do with it. It is called a tragicomedy so, there are some juicy topics to cover.

  6. I loved Adam and Queen. Perfect show stopping number. I was actually quite impressed with the performances over all. Queen stole the show though! :D

    Congrats Ricky!

  7. I just noticed that the url for this article talks about Kurt and Blaine, and it’s tagged with the Glee tag, but there’s nothing in here about Glee. Right? Am I crazy? Is my browser doing selective loading?

  8. Sorry about that link … I tried it & it wouldn’t go through. I came upon the video by typing in Queen Belfast & found it in the sidebar posted by QueenRockBand1 … I hope this helps.

  9. Adam Lambert is no Freddie Mercury. He should not be allowed to sing Queen songs. He didn’t do a very good job. I like Adam, but I love Queen, and I just don’t feel like he did them justice.

  10. @Kittles: Couldn’t disagree with you more. Adam was beyond amazing. He was not trying to be Mercury. He was being himself, singing a tribute to one of his idols invited there by Queen, Brian and Roger. To say he is not allowed to sing Queen songs is just ridiculous and stupid. Not allowed? Really? Get over yourself and stop being an ass!

  11. If I read one more person state “Adam Lambert is no Freddie Mercury”,I’m gonna lose it!!

WE KNOW…..ADAM KNOWS….THE WHOLE WORLD KNOWS. He is not Freddie Mercury. He never said he was. He wasn’t trying to be. Adam’s days of Idol are over. Stop trying to make a contest out of a tribute. Adam was paying homage to Freddie NOT trying to take his place.

Personally, and I loved Freddie and Freddie and Queen are unsurpassed as a band imo, but for my tastes in a musician,I prefer Adam. I prefer his voice, his look, his charisma, his stage presence….shoot me!

However I would never be so bold to say “Freddie Mercury is no Adam Lambert”. Why would I? One is a past icon, one is a future icon. One is dead, one is alive.

Let Adam do his stuff. Let Freddie rest in peace. The other night Queen came alive again…..and the memory of Freddie was honored. Adam Lambert had something to do with it. The remaining members of Queen felt he was the only person who could do their music and Freddie proud —- and they were right!!

PS. I think I just lost it!

  12. idc, i’m just so proud that Belfast, my parent’s hometown, hosted the EMAs after everything the city’s been through.

  13. Queen is always alive. It doesn’t matter who they play with. This is Brian May we are talking bout. He killed it with MCR. Brian makes people look good not the other way around.

FM still the top rock man.

  14. thanks to the people who supports adam and those who do not, get over it and stop being undenial. adam did a great job and he was himself not freddie besides adam did the queen a favour. i am sure people will start talking about the queen AGAIN. YES, ADAM KILLED IT AND THE BEST PERFORMANCE OF THE NIGHT.

    • The Queen ‘purists’ just can’t seem to come to grips with the fact that Freddie is dead. They live in the past and I suspect they feel that no one else could ever replace Freddie. Of course he can’t be replaced. He owns his place in music history. It’s fair enough that they revere him above all… that’s how they feel. No one will ever be able to replace MJ,or Elvis,or Frank Sinatra…etc.,etc. either. However it isn’t enough for them that Freddie has left his magnificent mark on music.

Adam Lambert is the first artist I have EVER had an invested interest in. Joined a fan club and everything! He doesn’t have the years of experience under his belt nor does he have the fanbase…..so far,but to deny Adam’s talent and vocal ability is absolute rubbish. And the ‘too theatrical’ comments that I have been reading on different sites are laughable…..especially since Freddie brought theatrics and rock together in perfect union.

With the lack of ‘REAL’ authentic and brilliant singers today, you would think that the Queen fan base would be thrilled that someone has come along that is in the same vocal league as their hero. And to add that Adam is a self-proclaimed Freddie fan and respects the artist that he WAS. Freddie was an inspiration. Yet,that’s not good enough for some. You’d think Adam was, himself, claiming to be the next Freddie Mercury judging from some of the comments. And we all know that Adam has nothing but respect and reverence for Freddie’s brilliance.

  15. This whold thing is for Queen you lunatics. I thought the level between the band and Adam was in perfect harmony. Freddie seemed to be right up there with Adam and the Universe.
