20 Single-Serving Recipes, Because Love is a Lie and We All Die Alone

Hello and welcome to this thing we’re doing where we help you figure out what you’re gonna put in your mouth this week. Some of these are recipes we’ve tried, some of these are recipes we’re looking forward to trying, all of them are fucking delicious. Tell us what you want to put in your piehole or suggest your own recipes, and we’ll talk about which things we made, which things we loved, and which things have changed us irreversibly as people.

  1. Can’t wait to try out that mushroom stir fry! Thank you for this! Also, the amazingness of including a single serve cookie dough recipe is unprecedented. Definitely sent that one along to some long distance besties because the struggle is real for all of us.

  2. These are awesome but because I’m a ~rebel~ I’ll probably double the portions and eat the leftovers the day after !

  3. The title of this is perfect. I laughed out loud for real. Can there be a header award like a comment award but for you?
Also a huge thank you for giving me a list to bookmark for my midday meal ideas for the next 3 weeks, whilst I’m home alone in the daytime. There are only so many days I can eat a grilled cheese, toast, or cereal for lunch. I suck at taking care of myself.

  4. Any recipe can be a single serving if you just believe in yourself.

I foresee that cookie dough becoming a staple in my diet soon.

  5. i read “single french lady onion soup” and i was like goddamnit they even do loneliness better than us

  6. MICROWAVE MAC N CHEESE IN A MUG??? My life is complete.

Also, I feel like there was a missed opportunity to call it “Mug n Cheese”

  7. If my girlfriend caught me making myself single-serving cookie dough, I’m pretty sure I would be cooking for one full time.

    • I got caught making the mug n cheese for one. My punishment was watching my gf eat it. Joke’s on her though, I had one hidden for my dinner after class!

  8. This is so great and helpful! I just made the eggless cookie dough for 1…but I doubled the recipe because I’m a hungry 1.

  9. This appeals to me both as someone who is eternally single and as someone who once upon a time was writing a cookbook with cheapy single serving recipes for college students.

  10. [Today’s me:] I have a date tomorrow so I won’t need these recipes THANKS ANYWAYS

[Two-days-from-now me:] Okay I guess I could try the one-serving chicken breast… the only breast I’ll ever be close to ever again…

    (I’m really bad at dates)

(Also I will still make single serving food even if it goes well)

  11. An App? I hadn’t considered that. Work on the cookbook died off partially because I’m too busy, but also partly because cookbooks are an anachronism these days given all the recipe blogs (which I tried to turn the cookbook into for a bit, but I’m no blogger). Maybe when I have more time I’ll see about resurrecting the project as an app. Thank you for the idea.

    • Oh, carp. This was supposed to be replying to someone directly. Ummm… unless you are that person, kindly ignore.
