You Should Go: Autostraddlers Are Meetin’ All Over The World for Pride!

Hello, glitterbombs! I just spent a weekend standing outside with my arms outstretched hoping for mardi gras beads and free candy, which means Pride hath officially arrived in my ‘hood. Luckily, the celebration is going on all month long around the world as Autostraddlers come together to meet, fall in love, play board games, and be total weirdos together as part of a month-long pridestravagaynza of meet-ups!

2014-pride-meet-ups

Last week, I put out a call using this really big, gay horn called Autostraddle for brave souls willing to host meet-ups around the world for the better half of LGBT pride month, so that the world’s best online destination for all things your exact life experience (this website) could become the world’s happiest community — in real life!

Now, I come bearing the ultimate gift: a selflessly and tirelessly compiled list of those future meet-ups care of Editorial Assistant Chelsey that has all the information you’ll need to hop on this crazy train of life and ride it right into Hangin’ Out With Cool Strangers Or Maybe Event Old Friends station. Simply find your city and be on your merry way!

If you don’t see your city — and want to — or would like to plan another meet-up for the month, there’s still time! You can email carmen [at] autostraddle dot com and chelsey [at] autostraddle dot com at any point to make updates to the list. But do it soon! There’s only so many eyeballs we can trick into clicking on these things, and the sooner you get your meet-up finished up, the more likely that someone else will ever know about it.

It’s time to get proud, motherfuckers. Why do it alone?

PS: While you’re galavanting around with your fellow Autostraddlers this month, remember to use the hashtag #AutostraddlePride on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to share your photos, quotes, and amazing notes full of feelings. If you’d like to send us a ton of photos, you can email me at carmen [at] autostraddle [dot] com. We’d really love to publish these publicly, so please don’t take photos at these events of people who would really not like to be a part of that bullshit!

  1. I can’t believe we didn’t make one for LA. This is one reason I hate work because I can’t plan important stuff for things like this.

    • LA happed during the weekend, LBC was a few weeks ago. :-/ Maybe if Ventura or Santa Barbra is having a pride festival?

      • Santa Barbara is in July… festival on the 12th with some other events leading up to it. More info here. I don’t know about Ventura…

        • Ooh. One of these years I should go down to Santa Barbara for Pride… I did spend half my childhood in Carpinteria. Haven’t been back for 20 years now, it’d be a blast to coincide it with Pride!

      • I know, but it shouldn’t mean we can’t celebrate the whole month..hm, maybe I’ll check out SB.

  2. I wonder why it is that Pride is in June everywhere in the world, except Vancouver it’s in August…

    • The Stonewall Riots happened in June. When I went to Pride in Houston, I wished it was held during September like Dallas’ because trying to party in 98F heat was not working out well. And many businesses were either closed off to us, didn’t allow us to sit down, and/or use their restrooms. Thank god for Kroger’s (local grocery store). They were raking in money that day.

      • Thanks for the reply! I did know that is why June, what I don’t know is why we do it in August up here. Apart, perhaps, from the fact that it’s raining right now…

    • In Stockholm it’s always in August or possibly the end of July. It takes us that long to get our weather shit together for the summer…

  3. I noticed there is no Seattle Meet-up planned.
I’m happy to be an organizer if there are other NW ladies interested in getting together.

I’m already hosting a Pride Special Women In Kink night at the Center for Sex Positive Culture on the 20th (it’s a member organization, but guesting in is possible).

  4. No Stockholm, Helsinki, Amsterdam, Barcelona? Come on!

Helsinki pride is happening on 28.6 if anyone’s in Finland.

  5. All these straddlers all over the world, coming together for glittery times. It makes my heart warm.

  6. Twin Cities Autostraddlers (of Minneapolis, MN and surrounding area) are in the process of planning an event for Pride! For anyone in the area who’d like to join, check out the FB Page here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/359578000831331/ The event may or may not be posted on the actual AS site in time, BUT we update our Facebook page often, so join and check in there!

  7. Brussels pride was a couple of weeks ago. (Amazing day,and a record turn out)

Antwerp pride is the week from August 4 till 10,with the parade at August 9. Guest of honor will be Conchita Würst, winner of the Eurovision song contest.

  8. Pittsburgh’s parade is actually on 6/15 (this Sunday). The date listed (6/28) is for Cleveland (Pittsburgh’s Pride website lists those of nearby cities).

  9. Sad I didn’t ANY meet ups for Florida. Do you exist tampa autostraddle readers? St Pete pride is huge! Reply here!

  10. Houston, get it together! We’re the 4th largest Pride in the country, we need to have a meetup!!!

  11. Can I add Tokyo’s Rainbow Pride event? The exact dates change each year, but it’s hosted in April at Yoyogi Park.

    • I don’t think it would fit the timeframe for this particular thing, but I was thinking we could start an Autostraddle group on fb if there are enough people that are interested? Then maybe we could plan another get-together for Rainbow Pride next year!

  12. I only came here to say that Pittsburgh dates are wrong and I’ll be there if any awesome people want to meet up :).

  13. Las Vegas Pride doesn’t happen until September (because it’s currently 100+ degrees outside), but I hope you all have an amazing time at your respective Pride events!

  14. I’m sad that there is no Columbus meet up happening. There’s a chance that I might skip pride completely because I have no one to go with :(

    • Hi, Clo. I’m going to the parade if you need some people to tag along with!

ANYONE ELSE, if you’re in Columbus next weekend & need some parade pals or want to do a meet up get at me :)

  15. I’m from Sydney (Australia) but I’m heading to Chicago and the New York on the 24th of June… Which means I’ll be in New York for the parade! I don’t know anyone in NYC/don’t know what afterparties are on and would love it if I could tag along with some people or get some recommendations… please :)

  16. Don’t know what’s going on in Portland, but I’ll be at the Thorns game on the 15th

  17. I can’t access the Sydney link? It’s just not working when I click it…is it a closed group?

  18. this list of pride meet ups only confirms that where i now live is an anomaly–WHY are the pride events in NC nearish me (winston salem, greensboro, and durham) all in the fall??

    • Don’t worry, I feel you. I live in SC and our Pride events are not in June either. They should be later than they are, but hypothetically the goal is to avoid months like June because it’s too god awful hot down south, even for the half dressed Pride outfits. Because nobody is proud of their swamp ass.

  19. maybe you guys have some sort of political agenda, but you constantly ignore Tel Aviv and the fact that there is gay culture here. I don’t know why the Pride event isn’t listed.
In fact, for a long time Israel was like the only country in the Middle East to have a lesbian bar, ONLY ONE. Mind. Blow.
Actually i think it still it.

like honestly there was a queer city guide for Moscow…

    • If you write a queer city guide for Tel Aviv, I will read the shit out of that. But honestly saying “you constantly ignore Tel Aviv and the fact that there is gay culture here” probably is not purposeful and has more to do with the fact that most of us will never get the chance to go there and have no clue. It’s not like there’s 3 full-time Autostraddle staff who get paid to just go around and experience the cities. Most of the information about the places is provided by the people who live there. You can be the change! Tell us about Tel Aviv.

      • funny you should say that!
me and a friend wrote a queer city guide for Tel Aviv that was never published.
i realize Tel Aviv is a little far away, but i thought it common knowledge that it is a very liberal city and the Gay Hot Spot of the middle east.
I would totally love to spread more info on how awesome this city is, but it’s not up to me.

      • We actually did wite one about Tel Aviv over a year ago and they never published it. i am not sure why…if AS editors have an issue with something or multiple things we wrote, I would have liked them to approach us about it.We had a two week deadline to write it and we took studying time off in the middle of finals to do it. Would happily make changes in order for it get published or at least know why it wasn’t. Tel Aviv is a great city for LGBTQ travel and has a lot of queer and social justice movements going on from both the Arab and Jewish populations that would interest a lot of AS readers.
For anyone here pride is tomorrow!!

  20. speed-friending sounds like a great way to start a get-together. kinda fascinated. I’ll have to remember the idea!

  21. Is anyone planning anything for Nevada? Specifically the Reno area? Personally I think a picnic/bbq up at the lake would be fun, but I would brave 5 Star or Tronix for an Autostraddle night.

  22. This is probably a long shot, but anybody in the Kansas City area? Their Pride festival is next weekend (June 20-22) and it’ll be my first year going :) Not really capable of hosting an official event, but if anybody is gonna be there it would be awesome to meet you!

  23. Is there a meetup for Washington, D.C.? I know that DC Pride was last weekend, but it would still be cool to have an Autostraddler meetup in our area :)

  24. It feels like you all already know each other – I really want to go, meet people & make some new friends but I have to admit I’m scared to just show up.

  25. Going to NY Pride for the first time. I’m thinking Dyke March, Parade, Festival. Are there any other amazing things I should know about?
