VIDEO: “Apocalypse” by DeAnne Smith Will Rip Out Your Heart, Brains, Entrails

Sweet Lesbian Jesus, I didn’t think I could love DeAnne Smith more than I already did. Comedienne extraordinaire, esteemed creator of Nerdy Love Song (with kitten interlude), forever in the hearts of all A-Campers, and now chanteuse behind the smash hit song “Apocalypse,” a love song animated with four hands and a sketchbook full of awesome. Y’all, DeAnne Smith has ripped my heart out and now it’s beating in her stupid dumb hands. That’s how much I love this.

God, DeAnne. You just get me.

Song by DeAnne Smith. Mixed by Christopher Fox at Foxhole Studios, Montreal. Animation by Bobby McGlynn & Bec Hill. Filming by Stef Keegan.

  1. i feel the image of one’s heart beating in somebody else’s stupid dumb hands is an emotion that transcends zombies and is an apt metaphor for life itself

    brilliant work, obvs

  2. That’s it. That’s everything. My life is complete.

(now this song is stuck in my stupid, dumb head …)

  3. Just when I thought I couldn’t stand another piece of zombie-related media, I go ahead and fall in love with this song. I gotta admit, it’s a pretty fucking apt metaphor.

  4. This is amazing. My eyes got real big at the part with the red string. And also at all the other parts.

  5. glad you guys like this! 2 things for the record. (is there a record? is THIS the record?!)

    1. i asked bec (the brilliant cartoonist/animator) to make the characters gender neutral but somehow that didn’t happen. i still love it, but i would have loved it a tiny bit more if it wasn’t gendered.

    2. the song grew from the first chorus: “completely terrifying, kinda hilarious, you take my heart, rip it through my chest, and now it’s beating in your stupid dumb hands…and i’m dead.” i added the zombie theme to, you know, give it some silly context and not make myself THE SAPPIEST, MOST RIDICULOUS person in the world. hahahahaha zombies, you know?
